Parables of Leadership
The parables that follow show the essential qualities of leader such
as ability to hear what is left unspoken,humanity,commintment,the
value of looking at reality from many vantage points, the ability to
create an organization that draws unique strengths of every
number. Following parables provide the occasion for reflecting on
the essence of leadership as well as on ones own work and life
• The Sounds of the Forest
• Fire and Water
• The Lesson of the Babbling Brooks
• The Wisdom of the Mountain
• The Wheel and Light
1.The Sound of the Forest
3rd century A.D., the king Ts’ao sent his son, Prince
Tai to the temple to study under the great master Pan Ku. The
master sent him alone to the Ming-Li Forest and told him to
return after 1 year, have to describe about the sound of the
forest. He came back after 1 year and told him about the
general sounds of the forest but the Master was disappointed.
He sent him back. After several days he came back and said
“when I listened most closely, I could hear the unheard”.
Outcomes
1. A leader should able to hear the unspoken.
2. Should be able to penetrate deep.
3. Should also be able to hear the true opinions, feelings but not
the superficial words.
2.Fire and Water
4th BC There is a small district ruled by King
Chuang’s whose predecessors successfully ruled the district but
Chuang,s was overthrown from the throne. He then migrated
to mountains seek wisdom from master Mu-sun. Mu-sun
gestures Duke to follow him down the river and then he build a
fire baffled by these activities Chuang’s asked the meaning of all
these activities and then Mu-sun imparts the wisdom.
Outcomes
1)Leader should not be authoritative, directive instead he should
be supportive and participative.
2) A leader should be adjustable and democratic in nature.
3) The leader should be positive,optimistic,flexible ,calm and
humble
4) People should feel confidence and sense of purpose.
3.The Lesson the Babbling Brook
Grand General Chin state on teaches the lesson
to Meungs by demonstrating the situational
examplates.General analyzed the future situation of his division
by feedback by lieutenant YU and proved to be correct as the
final results are fall to be in defeat of division 1 in battle field.
Outcomes
1. Leader should be committed.
2. Should never be arrogant.
3. Should never be over-confident
4. He should lead from the front.
4.The Wisdom of the Mountain
In ancient china, on the top of the mount Ping stood a
temple where the enlightened on Hawn dwelled live with his
many disciple. His most known disciple was Lao-Li, he was yet
to reach enlightment. But after he couldn’t reach to the
enlightment then he went to the master told him about it.
Master took him for a walk asked two Question when they
reached at the top and the bottom of the hill. Those two
question made enlightment.
Outcomes
1)We close our mind to all that we cannot view from our position
and so limit our capacity to grow and improve.
2)He should see and think in the other point of view.
3)The leader should be patient
5.The Wheel and the Light
In 3rd century B.C Han dynasty emperor
Liu Bang unified china for the first time and to celebrate such
feet he invited all high rank military and political officials. He
had three head of staff each had mastery in their respective
fields but during the festivities Chen Cen disciples asked their
master why Liu Bang is the emperor despite no noble birth.
Then XIAO logistics admin replied he posses the most
important HAN organisd military skill of all the ability to bind
CHANG formulated diplomatic and political strategieseveryone
together and took all of them forward
Outcomes
1)A leader unleashes the capabilities of his followers and make
them work
2)He also treat all his subordinates equally

up for the cause. Take initiative to do
the things and also he must see and
solve the problems from the different
prospectives.
