3. An Indian tribe from central Maharashtra who
have inherited a painting tradition stretching
back to 3000 BC.
Warli Art was first discovered in the early 70’s
The Warli or an indigenous tribe living in
mountain as well as coastal areas of Maharashtra
and Gujarat.
Warli paintings are done on walls of the huts of
Warli tribe. Warli are tribal's who live in Thane
district in Danu tashil the hinterland of
Maharashtra, in simple dwellings of clay and
reed plastered with cow dung.
Despite being in close proximity to Mumbai, the
Warli tribesmen shun all influences of modern
urbanization
4. These wall paintings are created by using very basic
shapes: circles, triangles and squares. The circle
and triangle come from their observation of nature,
the circle representing the sun and the moon, the
triangle derived from mountains and pointed trees.
White color is used as it is considered sacred and
pious.
These paintings depict social life, like marriage,
dance, sowing, harvesting or hunting.

various motifs which depicted their daily life events.

Dancing through the night Women tie their hair
in a single knot at the back of the head. Men and
women alternate in a spiral formation and dance
without turning their backs to the persons
playing the musical instruments
8. The God A temple with a deity inside. There
is a marriage procession at the bottom with
the bride and the groom riding a horse and
other people playing musical instruments and
dancing.
The New Crop Warli people harvesting the
new crop. In the centre, bulls are walking on
the new crop allowing the grains to separate.
The separated grains are then dropped from
a height allowing the wind to separate the
husk from the grains.

10. The painting is done on an austere mud
base using one color, white, with
occasional dots in red and yellow. This
color is obtained from grounding rice into
white powder

20. In this work we had done detail study on
WARLI Art. In this we have found that there
are lots of variations and transformation had
been in observed in this dress form as
compared to traditional designs to treble art
especially in traditional wear. But this dress
form stills retains its popularity among the
users.
Several threats were outlined in detail and
pictures also attached of the same
They are available both offline as well as
online.
In this work the hypothesis is also proved that
the Warli art and still play a significant role in
today’s fashion or lifestyle.
