LEADERSHIP APPROACH
A fundamental element of leadership, I believe, is maturity which is characterized by an ability to think
long-term, an ability to think rationally and strategically, and an ability to remain active and calm when
most people wouldn't be. Other important qualities are ability to be innovative and resourceful, ability to
be decisive and the ability to take calculated risks. A leader must also be able to gain confidence of
the stakeholders involved. And finally, a leader must help develop more leaders. When I was
managing a large program, I created two deputy program manager positions based on technology that
streamlined the entire program. I have run my own independent consulting firm advising and leading
business solutions and process improvement programs of customers in a variety of industries. As a
Strategic Leader, I have learnt that it is essential to be able to step back and take a bird's eye view but
also be able to lead from the front when implementing solutions. I have learnt all these lessons,
sometimes hard way, through my own leadership positions and actions I took and my observation of
others around me.
WORK APPROACH
I try analytical approach to problem-solving and I ask to-the-point questions to arrive at non-fanciful and
realistic solutions. The purpose of any analysis is to help make decisions. And therefore, it is important
to understand the concept of Precision vs Accuracy. We need accurate analysis which does not
become a never-ending exercise in precision. It is also important to have easy access to information both
created and acquired, hence I always emphasize on organizing and maintaining a knowledge
inventory. I am good at filtering out most relevant information from large amount of data. I write my own
MS Excel tools for these purposes. Positions related to planning, strategy and general management
where decisions are based on extensive analysis have always worked best for me. I can lead teams or
projects related to business process improvements/ turnarounds. I am very effective in crisis situations.
I thrive in change and stale jobs year-in and year-out don't work for me. I also believe in making my
living by creating REAL value and not by “sleight of numbers”. Finally, work-life balance is extremely
important to me. Someone not happy at home cannot fully contribute at work and vice versa.
WORK ENVIRONMENT PREFERENCE
Although I can adapt to most any work environment, I find myself most efficient when I work with flexibility
in terms of managing my own work and schedule and working in a collegial environment with high caliber
individuals who focus on what needs to be done to achieve results rather than organizational formalities. I
don’t prefer long commutes because it detracts from personal or professional time. I am very productive
while working remotely, although, I believe a substantial face-to-face interaction is almost always
necessary. I am quite comfortable and experienced with working with teams across different locations.
