• A fiber-optic cable, also known as an optical-fiber cable, is an
assembly similar to an electrical cable, but containing one or
more optical fibers that are used to carry light. The optical fiber
elements are typically individually coated with plastic layers and
contained in a protective tube suitable for the environment
where the cable will be deployed.
* Different types of cable are used for different applications,
for example, long distance telecommunication,
* providing a high-speed
data connection between
different parts of a
building.
There are Two types of fiber optic cable commonly used:
1) single mode
2) multimode
• need to enhance their network’s capability to perform long
distance communication needs a single mode fiber optic
cable.
• This cable has the smallest core and the thickest sheathing.
• specifically designed to carry a single signal source over
great distances with a low chance of failure.
• very costly
• Use in long distance
• diameter of core is from 8.3 to 10 micrometer
• Multi-mode optical fiber is a type of optical
fiber mostly used for communication over
short distances, such as within a building or
on a campus. Multi-mode links can be used for
data rates up to 100 Gbit/s
• Core diameter is Large (> 10 micrometer)
• Manufacturing and handling are easy .
• Twisted pair cable is a form of wiring in which
two conductors are twisted together for the
purposes of canceling out electromagnetic
interference (EMI) frome external sources and
crosstalk frome neighboring conductor
• These cable is twisted because to reduce the
(EMI)
• There are Two types
1) Unshielded Twisted Pair cable
2) Shielded Twisted-pair Cable
• Unshielded twisted pair (UTP) is a set of three
or four of wires twisted around the other to
prevent (EMI ) ELECTROMAGNETIC
INTERFERENCE .
• It is less Expensive
• Easier to Install
• UTP comes in the form of Cat 2,3,4 .
• Weight is light .
• Shielded twisted pair has four pairs of wires
with each wire in each pair twisted together .
STP is surrounded with a foil shield and
copper braided around the wires that allows
more protection from any external
electromagnetic interference .
• the cable is physically larger and more
difficult to install .
• More expensive than UTP .
• Registered jack (RJ) is a standardized physical
network interface for connecting telecommunication
or data equipment. The most common twisted-pair
connector is an 8-positon. 8- contact 8(P8C)
Modular plug and Jack commonly referred toA as an
RJ45 connector.
• wiring schemes T568A and T568B are used to
terminate the twisted-pair cable into the connector
interface .
RJ45 is a type of connector commonly used for
Ethernet networking. ... The "RJ" in RJ45 stands
for "registered jack," since it is a standardized
networking interface. The "45" simply refers to
the number of the interface standard. Each RJ45
connector has eight pins, which means
an RJ45 cable contains eight separate wires
• A straight through cable is a type of
twisted pair cable that is used in local
area networks to connect a computer to
a network hub such as a router
• If you are communicate different
network layer devices then use
STRAIGHT CABLE .
• Connect same layer devices like Pc’ to Pc,
router to router then use Crossover Cable .
