Properties of system

1. System Properties:
 Also called emergent system properties.
 Properties as a whole rather than properties
that can be derived from its subcomponents.
 Consequences of relationship between
system sub-components.
 Can only be assessed and measured once the
components have been integrated into a
system

2. Types of Emergent System:
a) Functional Properties
 These appear when all parts
work together to achieve
some objectives.
 Example:
A bicycle has the
functional property of
being a transportation
device once it has been
assembled from its
components
b) Non-functional Properties
 These appear when system
is applied in operational
environment.
 Examples:
It’s security,
performance, reliability, safety,
etc.

3. Examples of Emergent Properties:
 The Volume of the system
 The Reliability of the system
 The Security of the system
 The Usability of a system
