Properties of system
1. System Properties:
Also called emergent system properties.
Properties as a whole rather than properties
that can be derived from its subcomponents.
Consequences of relationship between
system sub-components.
Can only be assessed and measured once the
components have been integrated into a
system
2. Types of Emergent System:
a) Functional Properties
These appear when all parts
work together to achieve
some objectives.
Example:
A bicycle has the
functional property of
being a transportation
device once it has been
assembled from its
components
b) Non-functional Properties
These appear when system
is applied in operational
environment.
Examples:
It’s security,
performance, reliability, safety,
etc.

The Reliability of the system
The Security of the system
The Usability of a system
