2. Vision Rx Lab
We’ve been recalibrated to a high-definition world. We need to read 10-page documents on our smart
phones. Our TVs show us every blade of grass and every whisker, and that’s the resolution we expect
from our eyes.
And whether it’s reading emails, driving on highways or playing a round of golf, we rely on our eyes to
give us the clear picture.
Having an eyewear that delivers continuous performance is essential to get the most out of life—and
it all begins with the lens material recommendation you make ………
Importance of spectacles in today’s world.…..
3. Vision Rx Lab
Initially lenses were made only from Glass ..
Glass being brittle and dangerous when breaks - was used
for vision correction and placed in front of our most
precious organ – The Eye!
Evolution of lens materials …..
Then plastic lenses were introduced…
Starting from CR 39 1.50, to mid index (1.56) and high
index plastic lenses like 1.60,1.67 etc.
4. Vision Rx Lab
New and improved lens materials: -
•Basic lenses
•Average thickness
•Used world wide
Standard
plastic
•Upto 20 % thinner
lenses than plastic.
•Impact resistant
•Active lifestyle.
•100 % UV cut.
•Not much suitable for
rimless frames.
Polycarbonate
•35 % thinner than plastic
•High Impact resistant.
•High tensile strength.
•Unbreakable.
•Easy to tint
•Suitable for all frames.
•100 % UV cut.
Trivex /Tribrid
•Thinner and lighter
lenses.
•100 % UV cut.
Other high index
lenses
Subsequently new materials with advanced technologies were introduced like Polycarbonate, Trivex,
Tribrid etc that were,
Tough
Impact Resistant and
With High Tensile Strength

A look at the lens materials in detail : -
Glass Lenses
Originally, all lenses were made of glass, which while it made them very resistant to scratching, also made them
very heavy and prone to breakage.
• Exceptional scratch resistance (don't need scratch resistant coating).
• Excellent optical clarity.
• Excellent opticAnti-reflective (AR) coating adheres to glass very well.al
clarity.
Advantages:
• About 25 to 40 percent thicker than polycarbonate and high index plastic
lenses
• At least twice the weight of plastic or polycarbonate lenses.
Can shatter or chip easier than lenses made of other materials.
• Require a special coating to provide 100% UV protection.
Disadvantages
6. Vision Rx Lab
Plastic CR 39 Lenses 1.50 and Mid index as 1.56
A look at the lens materials in detail : -
• Good optical quality.
• Lightweight - About half the weight of glass lenses.
• More shatter resistant than glass lenses.
• Plastic lenses accept tints easily with uniform grade colours.
• Affordable.
Advantages:
• About 20 to 35 percent thicker than polycarbonate or high index plastic
lenses.
• Require scratch-resistant coating for added durability.
• Require a special coating to provide 100% UV protection
Disadvantages
it is more lightweight and thinner than glass making it comfortable to wear
7. Vision Rx Lab
A look at the lens materials in detail : -
High Index Plastic Lenses – 1.60 & 1.67
• Lightweight - Between plastic and polycarbonate lenses in weight.
• Thin - About 15 to 30 percent thinner than plastic lenses.
• Better peripheral optics than polycarbonate lenses (for prescription
sunglasses).
• Cosmetically more attractive.
• flatter shape of the lens will make things look less distorted towards the
edges of your lenses.
Advantages:
• Requires scratch-resistant coating for durability.
• Regular mid high index lenses are less impact resistant than Polycarbonate
• More lens reflections than glass or plastic lenses (AR coating recommended).
• Expensive
Disadvantages
Mid and high index lenses are for people with a high prescription. They allow spectacle lenses to be
made thinner, lighter and flatter than previously possible.
8. Vision Rx Lab
A look at the lens materials in detail : -
Polycarbonate Lenses
• Excellent impact-resistance - 10 times more impact resistant than other
lenses.
• Thin - About 20 to 25 percent thinner than plastic or glass lenses.
• Lightweight - About 20 percent lighter than plastic lenses.
• Blocks 100 percent UV rays without needing a special coating.
Advantages:
• Requires scratch-resistant coating for durability.
• Peripheral vision may be slightly less clear in strong prescription powers.
• More lens reflections than glass or plastic lenses (AR coating
recommended).
• Cracks while edging and mounting.
Disadvantages
Polycarbonate is one of the strongest and safest materials on the market.

Trivex and Tribrid lenses
Trivex material provides the complete package of optical quality, lightweight comfort, strength and protection—
the critical performance characteristics called for in everyday living.
Disadvantage : Expensive !!!!
• High impact resistance than polycarbonate
• High tensile strength than polycarbonate
• Unbreakable
• Easy to tint.
• Suitable for edging in rimless frames

Optical Quality – High index and high abbe value leads to
increased optical clarity & quality.
Thinner and lighter because of it’s high index (1.55).
High Abbe number (44) minimises the chromatic aberration
( prismatic effect) and provides comfortable vision.
High impact resistance and high tensile strength helps in
wearer’s eye safety.
Highly recommended and suitable for rimless frames.
Easy to process – for modern design lenses.

The world today – A Digital World
-Technology has become an integral part of our lives
-We spend long hours on digital devices like laptops, tablets &
smart-phones
- Resulting in
• Eye Strain
• Eye Fatigue
• Headache
This is caused due to Blue Light emitted by most of the digital devices
19. What is blue light?
The Visible Electromagnetic spectrum ranges from 380 – 780 nm. Blue Light,
falls under 380 – 500 nm and has a high electromagnetic frequency thus
possesses similar characteristics as UV rays
Vision Rx Lab
20. We are gradually having longer and more intense exposure
to blue light. The devices that we use regularly emit blue
light that cause strain to the eyes and is quite harmful.
Indeed we indulge ourselves into all these activities as
illustrated and hence need to protect our precious eyes from
continuous strain
Various ways we are exposed to blue light in our day to day life
Tablet
Mobile Phones
Laptop
Vision Rx Lab
21. Continuous usage of digital devices is harmful
due to prolonged exposure of blue light to the eyes
Vision Rx Lab
22. Adverse effects of Blue Light
Blue light has the shortest wavelength which focuses
in front of the retina and this is why the sight may
seen blurred

Due to Blue Light exposure eyes
may become red and swollen
Adverse effects of Blue Light
4. LowVision
Blue Light may lead to low vision if
continuously exposed over a long
period of time thus leading to
difficulty in reading
3.
Headache
Continuous exposure of Blue Light
may lead to headache which is
quite disturbing during regular job

25. Why Satin Relief is needed?
Satin Relief lenses have Blue coating which acts as a filter to block the harmful
blue light emitted from the digital devices thus giving relief to the eyes even
after prolonged usage of the electronic gadgets
Satin Relief- solution as Blue Blocker
Vision Rx Lab
27. Satin Relief-
Blocks Blue Light to a great extent
• Satin Relief has a blue filter on the front surface
• This helps blocking the harmful blue light from reaching the eyes
• Thus giving a relaxed vision for a longer period of time
Vision Rx Lab
28. Satin Relief–
Reflects Blue Light
Satin Relief is a pioneering technology that cuts off blue light Satin Relief unique anti-
reflective coating reflects
unwanted Blue Light,
allowing
• Clearer & sharper
vision
• Improved visual
comfort and
performance
• Relaxed Vision over
long periods of time

30. Additional Features
• UVprotection
One of the main reasons for visual impairment is the damage caused by the harmful UV
rays emitted from the sun.
Satin Relief coating comes with UV 400 protection layer which protects the eyes from
harmful UV rays
