COMMON
MISCONCEPTIONS
ABOUT ISC
SCHOOLS
T
he ISC represents almost 1,400 ed-
ucational institutions, but there are
still a lot of misconceptions about
what it means to be a pupil at one of these
schools.
The Benefits of Learning at
an ISC School
There are many benefits for pupils who
are learning at ISC schools, including:
• Receiving a high standard of education
• Getting access to a range of bursaries
• Getting an innovative education
• Being part of a highly valuable sector
ISC Schools Provide
a Broad All-Round Education
Many people think you can only get into an
independent school if your child has the
highest grades, but only half of ISC schools
are academically selective.
“
Currently, there
are around 29,000
non-British pupils in
independent schools,
which is only around
5% of the total stu-
dent population.
ISC Schools Contribute to
the Economy
In total, ISC schools save taxpayers £3.5
billion every year and generate £4.1 bil-
lion in tax annually, while supporting
over 300,000 jobs.
Even now, they are working in partner-
ship with state schools to create better
education for every pupil.
ISC Schools Aren’t Being Kept
Afloat by International Students
Although many ISC schools welcome
international students, they are by no
means kept afloat by them.
Currently, there are around 29,000
non-British pupils in independent
schools, which is only around 5% of the
total student population.
