A proverb that describes a basic rule of conduct may also be known as a maxim. If a proverb is distinguished by particularly good phrasing, it may be
known as an aphorism. The study of proverbs is called: paremiology (from Greek ПЂО±ПЃОїО№ОјОЇО± – paroimГa, "proverb") and can be dated
back as far as Aristotle. Paremiography, on the other hand, is the collection of proverbs. Subgenres include proverbial comparisons ("as busy as a
bee"), proverbial interrogatives ("Does a chicken have lips?") and twin formulas ("give and take"). Typical stylistic features of proverbs are:
alliteration (Forgive and forget) parallelism (Nothing ventured, nothing gained) rhyme (When the cat is away, the mice will play) ellipsis (Once bitten,
twice shy)
Internal features that can be found quite frequently include: hyperbole (All is fair in love and war) paradox (For there to be peace there must first be
2. war) personification (Hunger is the best cook) To make the respective statement more general most proverbs are based on a metaphor. Further typical
features of the proverb are its shortness (average: seven words), and the fact that its author is generally unknown (otherwise it would be a quotation).
We should also understand the difference between a proverb and a saying. A proverb distinguishes from a saying by its instructive nature and maturity.
Whereas a saying is usually not quite complete and has no conclusion.

BIBLICAL WOMANHOOD BASED ON PROVERBS 31
INTRODUCTION
As a fairly young girl, in my early twenties, I read Proverbs 31. Not that that was the first time I was reading it. It just happened that this time, it so
captivated and impressed me that I found myself praying it back to God on an almost daily basis after that. I desperately desired to be like this woman
of noble character candidly described in Proverbs 31. Could it be that having just come out of that age and season of teenage and adolescence I had
increasingly become aware of my femaleness and hence my womanhood? Could it be that I was unconsciously reaching out for an anchor by which
to measure my womanhood? Was it the inner realization that I was falling far too short of God's will and expectation of me as a woman, at least from
my point of view? What would it take to be the godly woman God wanted me to...show more content...
Let me say that having done this study a number of years now with young women, and having had to check what God was also saying to me, I
realized the need to put on paper the various aspects of the godly woman that God had revealed to us from His Word in a way that the young
woman on campus or college, and the young single and married woman can identify with and work towards, as I said earlier, in the spirited endeavor
to align her life to what God is saying; a gesture that honors the lord through obeying his word
Secondly, I must say I have been a beneficiary of the writings by godly women from the west. Their books have been an immense blessing to me. I
however began to realize that there didn't seem to be a book based on Proverbs 31 written in our African context addressing our realities; at least not
in the way I was seeking to have these realities addressed. As I sought to contextualize the book I was using to suit and address the young women's
needs, the thoughts of someday writing a book on this chapter began to solidify in my

6. Proverbs And Proverbs Of Culture
The National Center for Cultural Competence defines culture. as an "integrated pattern of human behavior that includes thoughts, communications,
languages, practices, beliefs, values, customs, courtesies, rituals, manners of interacting and roles, relationships and expected behaviors of a racial,
ethnic, religious or social group; and the ability to transmit the above to succeeding generation. This means that language is not only part of how we
define culture, it also reflects culture. Thus, the culture associated with a language cannot be learned in a few lessons about celebrations, folk songs, or
costumes of the area in which the language is spoken. Culture is a much broader concept that is inherently tied to many of the linguistic concepts...show

In her belief, which mostly stems on how she was raised through the followings of the Hebrew Bible, she expresses that she does not believe Jesus to be
the son of God, nor was he birthed by a virgin mother, but most importantly he is not the Messiah in which she read about through the scripture. This
does not mean that she does not acknowledge his existence but that she cannot fathom his presence on earth as the chosen Messiah. She then
mentioned that she felt bothered by the common misconception that the Jews debunk the theory of Jesus being the Messiah due to the fact that he
was poor man. "How can a lowly carpenter truly be the son of God and our savior?" This is the type of question in which she believes that people from
the Christian faith think the Jews ask themselves. She stated that in her own personal beliefs, and that she does not speak for other Jews, her Messiah
could be the poorest man on earth and it would not bother her. To her, there are many inconsistencies within the Bible and from what she has been
taught, that allow her to question and doubt Jesus Christs legacy. She finally discussed that within her community, they still await for God's chosen
Messiah to arrive and until then, she will maintain a strong connection with her faith but also embrace others with theirs.

Proverbs: Choice and Discernment, the Two Ways of Living
In studying the book of Proverbs there is a similar theme of choice and discernment, the teachings of decision–making and the repercussions of your
actions. These books are made up of extremes and polar opposites. The dualisms are the rich and poor, the righteous and the wicked, and the wise and
the foolish. There is advice given and it is up to the judgment of the person to which category they will fall into. There are two ways of living, and
based on the person's discernment and ultimate choice to which one they will get to live. This paper will focus on Proverbs 10, 12, and 14, Solomon's
Proverbs, to display this theme of choice and discernment. Proverb 10 is an...show more content...
The passage is most explicit to what will actually happen if a man chooses the wrong kind of wife. He will greatly suffer if his judgment was bad
on whom to marry, he will experience physical ailments. If the man uses wisdom in making the decision to marry a capable wife, he will be
rewarded for acting wisely. "If you are lazy, you will never get what you are after, but if you work hard, you will get a fortune" (12:27). This
passage shows that the repercussions to your decisions can be very bountiful. If you make the right decision to work hard and not be lazy, you will
come into wealth and get what you are after in life. "Retribution is not an entirely satisfactory term, however, for the English word connotes
punishment rather than reward, and immediate rather than gradual consequences". This passage is showing that there is not just consequences,
there are rewards for discernment, and God/dess will provide those to you. Again, this Proverb is about choosing which way of life suits you; in all
cases, having better judgment and being righteous will always bring you a better life, and be profitable. Proverb 14 continues to address this
dualistic approach on advice. "Homes are made by the wisdom of women, but are destroyed by foolishness" (14:1). This passage is very interesting
because Proverbs has been directed mainly to men, and this is telling the men that their women are wise. It would be foolish to not listen to a woman.

15. Meaning Of Proverbs
Each and every proverb has its own meaning and can only be used in particular situations, many times, the meaning of a proverb is not obvious and this
is why knowing all necessary information about isabout is of the utmost importance. Using proverbs in text or in speech incorrectly may cause
misunderstandings and confusion.
Norick (1985) marks two levels of comprehension: literal and figurative (implied). The former relates more to proverbs that can be understood on literal
level, e.g. Like mother, like daughter (Oxford Dictionary of Proverbs 2004), the literal meaning of this proverb is 'mother and daughter are alike', there
is nothing metaphorical in it and it is understood literally, the letter, however, is more sophisticated when it...show more content...
Mieder (2014) claims that proverbs are irreplaceable tools in teaching children moral behaviours, experience and general wisdom. However, not
every proverb has its didactic function, and one should be careful while selecting them in order to teach others (Norrick 1985). Proverbs can be also
used to teach foreign languages by translating exercises and at the same time pupils can learn about specific culture, heritage and moral precepts
(Mieder op. cit.). Worth mentioning is the fact that proverb can have direct and indirect didactic tendency. Nevertheless, all proverbs can be considered
as a didactic tool in particular context (Norrick op. cit.). In conclusion, it is commonly known that proverbs are good sources of wisdom and experience
that can be also transmitted into other purposes, for example learning foreign languages or teaching about human nature (Mieder op.

16. Theoretical Analysis Paper
Theoretical Analysis This section aims to give a platform in understanding the human communication that occurs in the workplace. As we discuss,
people with high apprehension would likely to have a tendency to avoid communication with others. Therefore, when a person communicates with
another person, sometimes it may involve some uncomfortable feelings between them. This situation might be related or could be examined by using
communication theories, in particularly, Cognitive Dissonance Theory and Expectancy Violations Theory.
Cognitive Dissonance Theory
According to cognitive dissonance theory (Festinger, 1957), individuals feel uncomfortable when they gain information which does not match the
existing pattern or inconsistent. West & Turner (2010) explained that the dissonance as inconsistent between...show more content...
However, if they were not able to avoid and withdraw from the unfavorable communication situations, then the dissonance would not be reduced and
consequently, they become less satisfied with their jobs (Gibbs, Rosenfeld, and Javidi, 1994).
There are three ways of reducing the dissonance between actions and attitudes: selective exposure, post–decision dissonance, and minimal justification
(Griffin, 2012). First, Festinger believed that people tend to avoid information that increases dissonance and find out the information that is consistent
with their attitudes and behavior. The selective exposure hypothesis could explain why the high CA members still choose to avoid communication,
even though it was necessary and compulsory in the workplace. For example, high apprehensive workers were fear of negative evaluation (Winiecki
and Ayres, 1999) and this emphasized that they refuse to gain information from others, as they would avoid the dissonance and become consistent with
their aversive behaviors. According to Festinger (1957), after people made a decision, they could produce a huge amount of internal tensions. The
theory mentions that the more important the

The Book of Proverbs
The book of Proverbs explains the wisdom of the Lord and the duties towards God and our parents. We should praise God for his wisdom because He
created us and the world. God tells us that we need to be prepared when we serve Him because He will judge us when we die. We need to accept
whatever falls upon us and make the best of it like God would want us to do. The book of Proverbs tells us that we need to cling on to Him which to
me that means we should follow His teachings and do whatever it takes to be with God so we can share in
God's life in heaven. When something bad happens to us and we don't know how to handle it we can always pray to God for help, instead of doing

That to me is one of the biggest commandments that God gave us. In chapter four it talks about the poor. I think that most of the poor did not choose
the way they live but they do need our help most of all.
We can help the poor by not turning away from them but by helping them with what they need, like giving them food or water, by giving them
shelter and clothes, and by helping them turn to God for help too because that way they can try and live the way God wants them to live. There
are also poor people who bring it onto themselves by maybe dropping out of school, quitting their jobs, running away from their homes, and by
taking big risks. But they too need help and we can help them by doing all that we can for them. Chapter four also talks about the rewards of
wisdom. I know that if we help people who need help then God will in return will let us be with him in heaven. But if we don't then we will
eventually regret the things that we could of done in our lives on earth when we are judged. We also need to ignore the evils so that we don't fall into sin.
God tells us not to show favoritism because it is to our own discredit. I think when we do show favoritism that is when people will use us and that is
when it is to our discredit. He also tells us that we should not refrain from speaking at the proper time and not hide our wisdom. God wants us to use
our wisdom and our talents that is why he gave them to

This would be an observational saying because it is obvious that you cannot be caught if you have chosen to never do anything wrong. These are
simple teachings, if you make the decision to behave, good things will come to you. Also, if you make the decision to be a good person, good
things will come out of you. "Righteous people know the kind things to say, but the wicked are always saying things that hurt" (10:32). This is
also an observation or confession, advice that is based on personal experiences. These passages focus on human's interactions with each other.
"[Proverbs] is mostly concerned with advice about relationships in different areas of life". Your personal life, and your relationships with others
will prosper if you use good judgment and make the decisions to be wise, hardworking, and righteous. Proverb 12 is also an antithetical parallelism.
The admonition tends to be positive, these are advices; do this, rather than, don't do that. "Wickedness does not give security, but righteous people

The book that I studied was the Book of Proverbs. The book of Proverbs is part of the Books of Wisdom in the Old Testament of The Bible. The books
in the wisdom section of The Bible (includes the book of Job, Psalms, Proverbs,Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs, Book of Wisdom and Sirach) are meant
to try and spread wisdom to the reader and show the right way, or better ways to live your life in faith. The book of Proverbs is made up of guides on
how to live a faithful life, and how to deal with different situations that you may come across in your life.
Proverbs is a collection of instructions and sayings composed into a book (usccb.org, 2016). The Book of Proverbs is made up of both long and
short guides to life that have to deal with certain situations. These passages can range from a length of seven verses to thirteen chapters. The
situations that are written about are very common in today's society. These situations that are written about in Proverbs range from laziness to
laughter. Proverbs includes two types of writings: long instructions that are addressed to younger people and shorter sayings that are meant for all
ages. Parallelism, which is the state of being parallel to something, or corresponding to something is very common in The Book of Proverbs. The book
of Proverbs stresses that faith is a matter of right
