1. Austin Student Affairs
Student Affairs at UT Austin
Introduction
Student affairs is the unit at a higher education institution that typically provides support and services for students on campus. Growth and
development are focus areas and students are encouraged to turn to student affairs for opportunities outside of the classroom. This paper will evaluate
The University of Texas atAustin's Division of Student Affairs. It will also review its mission, position on assessment and diversity, essential
competencies, organization frames and archetypes, and applicable development theories.
The Student Affairs' Mission in Action
There are nine primary departments within the Division of Student Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin (UT). As per the Division

(2011), "assessment data yield information about potential strengths and weaknesses in planning, programming, and policymaking" (p. 324). At this
time, a campusâwide assessment for Student Affairs cannot be located in the Student Affairs or the UT website. However, based on the 2014â2015
Budget Summary, there is a budget category for academic enhancement (Knight, 2015). UT is a research university and a great deal of funding goes
towards funding research. If Student Affairs was able to illustrate the academic, programmatic, and budgetary benefit of assessment and survey results,
there is a chance the academic enhancement funding could be used to finance

2. Writing in opinion of the court in the case of Fisher V. University of Texas at Austin (II). This case had been previously heard by the Supreme Court
resulting in a 7â1 decision that explained the University had no grounds to apply any preference to racial minorities in the application or the
acceptance process. The case was reopened at both the fifth circuit court and the Supreme Court. There will be seven justices presiding over this
case, with the death of Justice Antonin Scalia and Justice Elena Kagan recusing herself. The question of making admission decisions on the basis
of race had been debated before in the Supreme Court, in the case of Grutter v. Bollinger. The University of Michigan Law School had denied the
admission of Barbara Grutter, a white female. The Law School admits that it uses race as a factor in making admissions decisions because it serves a
"compelling interest in achieving diversity among its student body." The court ruled in favor of the University of Michigan, because no single factor
eliminated a certain applicant from being denied admission and race was seen as a factor that would help diversity in the law school. This case was
referred to in the discussion phase of this hearing. In the case, the plaintiff accused UT at Austin of racially discriminating against her in the application
and acceptance process. Under the first application procedure that lasted up until 1997, two factors were taken into consideration, the applicant's
performance in

3. Health Science Scholars Essay
The Health Science Scholars is a program that is full of opportunities for students looking to go into the health field such as myself. I personally
have a drive to learn about public health and medicine in general. I have an interest in doing research and I feel as if the Health Science Scholars
program will allow me do to so. I specifically have an interest in doing research in mental health, as I know mental illnesses and healthcare are an
extremely complex and prevalent issue in today's world. HSS would give me the opportunity to do research and work closely with faculty members
since UTâAustin has an abundance of resources and research projects that do diverse studies such as the Texas Institute for Mental Health. I am

4. Ut Austin Competitive Advantage
UT Austin offers me a world of possibilities that I could only dream of. UT is already extremely erudite, so making an impact will be difficult. But
I will tackle this huge challenge, because I know I can bring unique traits that are uncommon in this world. One of those being, I am very
collaborative. I function well in teams because I can communicate with people honestly and positively. At UT I know these skills will help everyone
learn more and learn faster. In the real world, all jobs are team oriented, so I know that my good teamworking skills will help other students learn
how to communicate ideas. I learned most of my team working skills from robotics club. As part of our new member training, I led a group of new
members in building a

5. Fisher V. Ut-Austin Case Study
Fisher v. UTâAustin is a case in which the University Of Texas was trying to make their student population more diverse. They implemented a program
in which they would include 'special characteristics' to admit the last twentyâfive percent of its students, as the first seventyâfive percent was already
admitted because they were in the top ten percent of their graduating class within the state of Texas. For the last twentyâfive percent of students the
admissions process was broken down into hard data and soft data. The hard data comprising of SAT scores and high school grades, amongst other
things. While the soft data took into account a review of applicants personal essays, leadership skills or community service. But it also included a special

6. The Ut Campus
In the culture of Austin, I have observed walking as the "strange in the familiar", specifically on the UT campus. On the UT campus, we walk just
about everywhere. Although some individuals have bikes or scooters or ride the bus, most students walk from class to class. On Guadalupe, before
the walk sign appears, students are usually already in the crosswalk because they have watched the stoplight change from yellow to red. Some
individuals step into the street without even checking to make sure that all traffic has stopped. The "look both ways before you cross the street"
philosophy seems to have been forgotten, and now students have the mentality that the cars will always stop for them. Students have adapted to the UT
community and assume that cars will stop for them, but forget that there are still people who run red lights or roll through stop signs
I became aware of this phenomena when I was walking home one day, and an individual on their phone was almost hit by a car who ran a red light.
This phenomena does not just occur at intersections with stoplights, but also at various intersections in main campus, in west campus, and around
campus. The students and faculty of the UT Austin community make up a subculture within the Austinculture. We are united by concepts and values
that are distinct to our campus (Conley, 2015). As a freshman, you adapt to the UT Austin community and you learn how to carry yourself as a UT
student, upholding the UT values and falling into

7. Case Study Of The UT System
Recommendations Based on the findings above, the UT System should move forward with implementing blockchain technologies as a ledger to track
faculty and student records. Blockchain development is being pushed forward by financial institutions, and educational institutions, like the UT
System, can benefit from the operational efficiencies of blockchain. The team recommends the UT System implement a private blockchain with
periodic releases of new features. Initially, the blockchain will be used to track student records, such as personal information, transcripts, etc. The private
blockchain will later be expanded to include alumnus, administrators and faculty, and professors and researchers. The UT System should implement the

After the final implementation of the blockchain, the UT System could incentivize students to verify changes by promoting tuition reimbursements or
other types of incentives.
Alumnus
After the initial release, the UT System should expect to release three more features to the private blockchain including record tracking for alumnus,
administration and faculty, and professors and researchers. In regards to alumnus, the blockchain system will contain information on past transcripts
and donor information. The private ledger will allow alumnus to access their transcripts and other personal information if requested by potential
employers. In addition, the university will have the ability to track donations and see what alumnus are more frequent donors to allow for targeted
donation requests.
Administration and Faculty The benefits for administration and faculty will be tracking personal data as well as storing historic work data. The
ledger system will allow for UT schools' faculty's information to be systematically stored and have information readily available to view. Work history
can be easily traced, and faculty looking to transfer to other divisions in their department or other departments can share their work history in order to
make their candidacy stand out.
Professors and Researchers The final release for the private blockchain will be for the professors and

8. Ut's Goal Of Diversity
UT's goal of diversity is flawed and unobtainable. UT never provides a definition of critical mass which is needed when diversity is such an
important goal. Obtaining and measuring diversity is not a case of "I'll know it when I see", some concrete goal must be in mind. UT's goal of
diversity includes a select number of minorities in every classroom, and this goal is plainly unobtainable. There only two ways to ensure that
classrooms have the desired number of minority students. The first is to put in place rigid course requirements and schedule, but doing so would
remove the liberty of the college experience. The second goal would be to establish a quota to ensure that minorities would be present in all
classrooms. The usage of a quota to

were each other at the bake sale in second grade, I knew. When I went to fairs to sell cell phone cases with my dad and she was always with me, I
knew. As we grew older, the closer we got and the more her and I understood each other. At this point, she had turned into a part of me, it was no
longer her and I but rather we. Coming to University of Texas at Austin, has admittedly created a strain on our relationship. I was not sure if our
relationship should continue, were we really meant for each other? I did not know her, I did not know how we would change the world, but now I do.

10. The University Of Texas At Austin
The University of Texas at Austin claims that it has good justifications for its use of race in the admittance program. To provide evidence against
Fisher's claim of being unable to stand up to strict scrutiny, the University said that the Court had previously ruled that the "UT's limited consideration or
race was 'necessary' and narrowly tailored to UT's compelling interest in achieving student body diversity" ("Brief of Respondents University," 2015).
After Fisher's case went to court the first time, the court was persuades that the need for having race as part of the holistic admittance program is not
considered a quota because it "a search for students of unique talents and backgrounds who can enrich the diversity of the student body in distinct
ways" ("Brief of Respondents University," 2015). The University conducted internal studies and was alarmed at the low rate of minorities attending
classes, and is committed to improving the interracial relations by increasing diversity. The University believes that by promoting diversity it will
break down long standing racial and ethnic stereotypes, as well as improving crossâracial understanding. They find that this is necessary because our
society is still race conscious. Texas is in fact racially segregated within cities. I think that Santa Rosa may even have some segregation, with Roseland
having a predominantly lowâincome Latino population the elementary schools are made up of entirely Latino children, and have poor

11. "Abigail Fisher vs. The University of Texas at Austin" Response
Racial discrimination has been a prevalent issue in America since the beginning. After the Civil Rights Movement in the 1950s and 1960s, American
society has tried to correct its discriminatory behavior, particularly in the field of education. But some believe this correction to ensure equality of
educational opportunity is infringing on the rights of, not minorities, but whites. The Supreme Court Case, Abigail Fisher vs. University of Texas at
Austin, tried to combat this issue regarding the "discrimination of whites" in college admission. Edward Blum uploaded a video on to the internet
summarizing Abigail Fisher's side of the court case. The video entitled "Abigail Fisher vs. University of Texas at Austin" lacks ethos, antagonizes the
University of Texas for trying to enlarge their student diversity, and...show more content...
The University of Texas at Austin" video fails to accomplish its goal of portraying Fisher's side of the lawsuit effectively. This is due to its lack of
ethos, ignorance regarding the current economical stance of nonâwhite races, and the right of the University of Texas to enhance their student diversity.
Fisher is blind to the fact that nonâwhites have historically faced discrimination, and those historical events have affected their societal place today.
Her statement saying, "A good start to ending discrimination would be getting rid of the boxes on applications," is erasing both the history and the
identity of people of color (Blum). Joel Spring states, "Today, the issue of classification is tied to the concept of equality of educational opportunity"
(Spring 128). It is important to remember that history has affected modern society, and we cannot simply erase the idea of race and call it equality.

Running out of Time, "My Life" This paper explores the different themes of development throughout the lifespan and challenges of a character in a

(Michael Keaton) figuring out how to operate a video camera to record himself. He then set the stage for what is happening, stating he was

UT Austin's Office of Admissionsâ Personal Connections as a Consultant I selected UT Austin's Office of Admissions for my consultancy project due
to the unique opportunity to give back in a way I thought would be helpful. I also hoped to utilize what I learned to increase my understanding of its
challenges. My career in higher education began with UT Austin's Office of Admissions in 2006. After six years, I requested a role with greater
responsibility, believing I needed more space to grow than the organization would allow at the time. In 2013, Dr. Ishop, vice provost and director of

Admitted students with high need and lower probability of fourâyear completion, were deâincentivized from matriculation by way of inadequate
funding to support their enrollment. Students most impacted by these changes in policy and practice were disproportionately from underrepresented
backgrounds and under resourced secondary schools, creating conflict between admissions practices that focused on crafting a diverse freshmen class
and greater institutional emphasis on fourâyear completion.
Though I remained closely connected to the Office of Admissions during my time in CNS, I observed, as in outsider, significant staffing changes,
compromised staff morale, and increased skepticism the institution held for admissions and recruitment staff. In addition, recruitment efforts were often
berated publicly as the cause for matriculation declines by ethnicity, major, or caliber. More than 15 admissions officers, the majority from the
recruitment division, resigned due to dissatisfaction and/or lack of confidence in changes in leadership and direction of the institution â many of these
positions were not replaced. Due to changes in leadership in both admissions and CNS, my position is returning to the Office of Admissions in June
2016. Given the state of the organization, I sought to address the following questions:
1.How is the institution and organizational mission understood by the recruitment
