PEERS®
is a 16-week evidence-based social skills intervention for motivated young
adults, who are interested in learning ways to help make and keep friends. During
each group session, young adults are taught important social skills and are given the
opportunity to practice these skills in session.
Parents/Caregivers are taught how to assist their young adults in making and
keeping friends by providing feedback through social coaching during weekly
socialization homework assignments.
Social Skills Group
for Young Adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder
Young Adults will learn:
• How to use appropriate conversationsal skills
• How to find common interests by trading information
• How to appropriately use humor
• How to enter and exit conversations between peers
• How to handle rejection, teasing, and bullying
• How to be a good host during get-togethers
• How to choose appropriate friends
• How to be a good sport
• How to handle arguments and disagreements
• How to deal with peer pressure
• Dating etiquette/skills
Who should participate?
• Young adults ages 18-30 years old with friendship problems
• Young adults interested in attending the program
• Young adults agreeing to participate in the program
• Young adults with adequate verbal abilities that will ensure he
or she is able to follow the lessons provided
• Young adults that do not have behavioral issues that would
prohibit participation (i.e., aggressive behavior)
• A parent/caregiver/peer mentor or other adult family member
agreeing to participate as a social coach and attend all
sessions

(parent/caregiver and young adult) for a 1 hour intake appointment to determine if our program is
appropriate for you and your young adult • Deposit due upon completion of intake. Balance due first class
Enrollment is limited • Regular attendance is imperative • Parent/Caregiver participation is required for
adults residing with parents • Must be registered with UCF CARD prior to intake appointment •
