Picchu?

• Machu Picchu stands 2,430
meters above sea level in the
middle of a tropical mountain
forest.
• Machu Picchu is a historic
sanctuary built for the Inca
civilization in the
15th century.
3. • Machu Picchu has thousands of steps
and 16 fountains.
• Believed the people died over
smallpox.
• It is believed to be abandoned in the
16th century when the Spaniards took
over the empire.
4. The use of Machu Picchu
Road and trail systemThe building consisted
of baths, houses,
temples and
sanctuaries.
It was the center for
the Inca Civilization
(trade, worship and
meeting place.
Farming zone,
residential town, royal
district and sacred
palace.
5. Our Site: What We
Built
• An Inca temple built out of stone.
• Normally fit well together
• Built to withstand earthquakes
• High priests inhabited Machu Picchu
6. Geography Facts
Rock from the
mountains to build.
79 in of annual rain fall.
Used terraces to farm
land and to prevent
from sliding.
Used river rock to
carve buildings.
The geography is the
reason for its existence
today.
Terraces were layers
(big and small rocks,
gravel, sand and
topsoil.)
