Jesus preached His first sermon after He called the disciples. The first part of the Sermon on the Mount is called Beatitudes-Belivers Attitude Matthew 5:3-12
2. Psalm 37: 1-11
Fret not thyself because of evildoers,
neither be thou envious against the
workers of iniquity.
2 For they shall soon be cut down like
the grass, and wither as the green
herb.
3 Trust in the LORD, and do good; so
shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily
thou shalt be fed.
4 Delight thyself also in the LORD:
and he shall give thee the desires of
thine heart.
3. 5 Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also
in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
6 And he shall bring forth thy righteousness
as the light, and thy judgment as the
noonday.
7 Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for
him: fret not thyself because of him who
prospereth in his way, because of the man
who bringeth wicked devices to pass.
8 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret
not thyself in any wise to do evil.
4. 9 For evildoers shall be cut off: but
those that wait upon the LORD, they
shall inherit the earth.
10 For yet a little while, and the wicked
shall not be: yea, thou shalt diligently
consider his place, and it shall not be.
11 But the meek shall inherit the earth;
and shall delight themselves in the
abundance of peace.
5. The Beatitude is like a ladder, you need to attain one before you
move to the next step.
Beatitudes does not describe the character for different member
of the kingdom, but the characters each member of the kingdom
must possess.
6. Blessedness in MeeknessBlessedness in Meekness
One problem with the English word meek
is that it rhymes with weak, and people
have linked the two words together for
years.
A popular dictionary offers a secondary
definition of meek as “too submissive;
easily imposed on; spineless; spiritless.”
This causes some people to question
why Jesus would say, “Blessed are the
meek, for they shall inherit the earth”
(Matt. 5:5).
7. Blessedness in Meekness
The third Beatitude is “Blessed are the
meek, for they will inherit the earth”
(Matthew 5:5).
Jesus’ words echo Psalm 37:11, which
says, “The meek will inherit the land
and enjoy peace and prosperity.” What
does it mean that the meek are
“blessed”?
Meek here refers to mildness,
gentleness of spirit, or humility (James
1:21; 3:13)
8. Blessedness of Meekness
Meekness in the Bible is an attitude
toward God “in which we accept His
dealings with us as good, and therefore
without disputing or resisting.” We see
this in Jesus who found His delight in
doing the will of His Father. (John 4:34,
5:30, 6:38)
It is expected that every member of a
kingdom do the will of the King of the
Kingdom.
9. A Portrait of the Meek
THE MEEK are those who are gentle,
humble, and unassuming, simple in faith and
patient in the face of every affront. Imbued
with the precepts of the gospel, they imitate
the meekness of the Lord, who says, "Learn
from me, for I am meek and humble of
heart.“(Matthew 11:29). Jesus was the perfect
model of meekness
It is one of the fruits of Holy Spirit. (Galatians
5:22 – ‘gentleness’)
It is the mark of disciple of Jesus. (Eph 4:2)
Christian leaders are to be meek. (2 Timothy
2:25)
10. Potraiat of Meekness
Let us look at meekness in the light of Psm 37:
1-11
1. They Trust in God1. They Trust in God
Meek people begin by trusting God (verse 5b).
They believe that he will work for them and
vindicate them when others oppose them.
Biblical meekness is rooted in the deep
confidence that God is for you and not against
you.
Before meekness, their must be an emptiness,
and genuine mourning for sin. Not until we
have total reliance on God (the King of the
kingdom), we will be able to trust Him.
11. Potraiat of Meekness
2. They Commit Their Way to God
Next, meek people commit their way to the
Lord (verse 5a). The Hebrew word for
"commit" means literally to "roll." Meek people
have discovered that God is trustworthy, and
so they roll their "way" — their business, their
problems, their relationships, their health,
their fears, their frustrations — they roll all this
onto the Lord.
3. They Are Quiet Before God and Wait for Him
Next, according to verse 7a, meek people are
quiet or still before the Lord and wait patiently
for him
12. Potraiat of Meekness
4. They Don't Fret over the Wicked
And so the fourth thing about them (in verse
7b) is that they don't worry, vex, agonize,
trouble themselves over the wicked who
prosper in their way. Or, as verse 8 says, they
refrain from anger. Ephesians 4:26-31, James
1:19-20. Only fools are angry Proverbs 29:11,
Ecclesiastes 7:9, Colossians 3:8
FromFrom Psalm 37, meekness has very much to do
with God. It consists in a peaceful freedom from
fretful anger and is based on trusting God and
rolling all our ways onto God and waiting patiently
for God. Meekness has very much to do with God.
13. Jesus Example of Meekness
'meekness' it's simply this: it is power under
control
Luke 2:7: Born in a manager
John 13:1-17 - Jesus Washes His Disciples' Feet
2 Corinthians 8:9 For ye know the grace of our
Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for
your sakes he became poor, that ye through his
poverty might be rich.
Matthew 12:20 A bruised reed he will not break,
and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out, till he
leads justice to victory.
John 8:10: Jesus Christ Restored a Servant's Ear
Luke 23:34 Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for
they do not know what they are doing." And they
divided up his clothes by casting lots.
14. The Promise
What an amazing promise and reward, God gives to
those who are meek! – “They will inherit the earth.”
1. God is the owner of this earth (Psalm 24:1).
2.Those who obey Christ become children of God (Galatians
3:27; Hebrews 5:9), and “joint-heirs” with the Lord (Romans
8:17).
3.The Father supplies all our needs (Philippians 4:19), we
therefore enjoy this earth and its blessings more than all
others.
4. Mainly, however, our inheritance is spiritual (Acts 20:32);
we are heirs in the kingdom of Christ (Eph 5:5),
and citizenship in that kingdom is available now on this
earth (John 3:3-5; Col 1:13).
5. Finally, we also look for an inheritance that is
reserved for us in heaven (1 Peter 1:4), because we are aware
that the earth will be destroyed when Christ returns (2 Peter
3:10).
