Female bouncers are increasingly in demand in Delhi to provide security at events and venues where both male and female guests are present. The demand is driven by the need to control unruly male and female guests in a respectful manner. Female bouncers help resolve conflicts politely and ensure the safety of intoxicated female patrons. While experience in law enforcement is valued, on-the-job training in de-escalation techniques is typically provided. The role of female bouncers is expanding beyond nightclubs to concerts, weddings, hospitals, and even accompanying female employees traveling at night.

2. Regular workout with weight training and toning exercises are a must for
Anita Jainwan. She follows a strict diet and never skips her healthy meals
comprising of egg, chicken and milk to maintain her fitness. Anita is no
athlete or a fitness freak she is a 44-year-old bouncer at a club in CP . She
has been in the profession for 10 years now and tell us that the demand for
female bouncers has shot up in Delhi. “As more women now come out to
party in pubs and bars, the demand for female bouncers has increased so
much that security firms are often unable to meet it and have to turn down
requests for private parties and high profile events.Almost every club in
areas like CP , Hauz Khas Village and Mehrauli recognises the need for female
bouncers. When women guests drink too much and lose control, male
bouncers can't even touch them. So female bouncers are needed at clubs for
the safety of female guests,“ says Anita.

3. MEN BEHAVE BETTER WITH FEMALE
BOUNCERS
Initially, female bouncers were hired just to make sure that women guests leave the
premises safely after drinking. But that has changed. Now they are also needed to control
any altercation involving male guests as well. Anubhav Khiwani, who owns a firm that
provides security personnel, says, “Female bouncers are now needed to control not just
female guests but also men. If an argument starts and bouncers have to intervene, men
just push the male bouncers or argue with them.Sometimes they even abuse. But when a
female bouncer stops them, they know they can't touch her.“
“They know that if they misbehave with her, they can be sent to jail. They can't abuse a
woman as easily as they could abuse a man. So it's easier to bring the situation under
control when female bouncers are around,“ says Anubhav .
In most cases, when minor fights or arguments break out in a club, female bouncers are
sent with the male bouncers to deal with them. “While the male bouncer may use his
strength to keep the brawling men apart, all the female bouncer has to do is stand
between them and talk politely to calm them down. In such situations, the male guests
don't know what to do, so they end up listening to her and the situation is bro ught under
control. We encounter such cases frequently ,“ says Anita, adding, “I address boys as `beta'

4. THEY RESOLVE CATFIGHTS, HELP DRUNK
WOMEN
Female bouncers tell us it is not easy handling women.Dealing with tantrums,
making sure they don't get into arguments with other guests, resolving catfights,
dragging them out of washrooms and even dropping them to their car, if they are
too drunk to walk it's a difficult job to ensure the safety of female guests.
“When girls are dancing, we keep a strict eye on them to make sure there is no
problem.Most arguments and fights st art on the dance floor and some of them are
a result of misunderstandings. Agar dance karte hue kisi ka haath lag jata hai, toh
ladai ho jati hai.Ladke bolte hai, `Humne nahi kiya,' which is true in many cases. Par
ladkiyan nahi manti, toh ladai hoti hai. In such cases, we intervene before it gets
out of hand. Guys generally listen to us and stop arguing,“ says Anju Dhanda, a
female bouncer who has been in the profession for six years.
After-party issues are more challenging to handle, the bouncers say . Anita
explains, “Bahut baar ladkiya itna pi leti hain ki dance floor par hi gir jaati hain.
Kabhi washroom lock kar leti hain aur bahar nahi aati ya washroom mein gir jati
hain.“

Sunita Hansraj, another bouncer who has been in the business for more than
five years, says that such situations are tricky , as they have to make sure the
female guests leave the club safely. She says, “We have to carry the girls and
drop them to their cars. In many cases, the girls don't leave the premises
long after the party is over and we have to convince them to leave.“
Anju tells us they witness catfights too, and adds, “Most of the times, these
are pointless. The girls say things like, `Woh mujhe dekhe hi ja rahi thi,' or,
`Woh mere boyfriend ke saath dance kar rahi thi'. Sometimes, a couple starts
fighting among themselves as well because the girl feels her boyfriend is
flirting with another girl.“
While female bouncers have a sturdy frame, they avoid using any force on
the guests. Arti Singh, who works at a club in West Delhi on weekdays and in
a club in Connaught Place on weekends, says, “I have been in this profession
for over three years.

I have beaten up guys often. When they misbehave with girls, I first talk
to them politely and then give them a warning. If they persist, however,
we have no option but to get physical and throw them out. I have also
slapped two girls in the past and it became a major issue. The club was
hosting a private party and two girls insisted that they should be
allowed to attend it, even though they were not invited. I explained
that general visitors were not allowed, but they abused me and
grabbed my collar. I then slapped them, but they went to the police
station and said I had stolen `2,500 and a gold bracelet from their bag
and when they `confronted' me, I thrashed them. They even made
marks on their faces. When police checked the CCTV footage, however,
the truth came out.“

7. NEEDED AT CONCERTS, MARRIAGES AND
EVEN HOSPITALS
Having female bouncers is not just a matter of security any more. It's the `in' thing
at high-profile weddings, concerts and private events. “Wherever there are
celebrities in the city , there is a demand for female bouncers. We are told that
their presence adds to the profile of the event. Also, whenever a celebrity is
performing at a mall, college or a private function like a wedding, they ask for
female bouncers. Some female celebrities ask for fe male bouncers for their own
security . When it comes to controlling a crowd, female bouncers are needed to
manage the girls, as male bouncers can't touch them,“ says Shyam Singh, senior
manager, Secura Security Service. Their firm has around 10 female bouncers and
Shyam tells us that the demand is so high, they often run short.
Dinesh Bhatt, owner of Knight Ranger Security Services, says the number of female
bouncers is rising at IPL matches and parties as well. “Sometimes women try to
breach security at matches and they don't listen to male bouncers. Female
bouncers are more effective in these cases,“ he says. Brought to you by

The latest requests that security firms are getting are from private
offices, which want fe male bouncers to accompany their female
employees when they are travelling late at night.They are also needed
in hospitals. “In hospitals, if a patient dies, the doctor is often held
responsible for it. The female family members of the deceased
sometimes beat the doctor. Only female bouncers can control them in
such cases,“ says Anubhav , owner of Denetim Services.

9. NO SPECIAL TRAINING REQUIRED
While there is no specific training required to be a bouncer, there are
security firms in the city which prefer retired personnel from the Central
Reserve Police Force, Border Security Force and other defence forces.
“For government functions and events, female bouncers who have worked
with defence forces are the preference, as they are trained to handle any
emergency .So, we only hire them,“ says Rakesh Sharma, owner of Aman
Security and Allied Services.
The only training that female bouncers are given by firms is related to body
language and conduct. “We train them to not use force initially, but to speak
strictly and resolve the issue. Training them is not a great task. Most of them
are housewives who manage their household during the day and are working
to earn extra money ,“ says Shyam.
