problems and homelessness. Transgender teens and young adults usually suffer from physical and mental problems the source of these problems'

Transgender Equality Everyone is assigned a gender at birth and they are expected to play the role of that gender. Everyone is expected to dress
like, play like, and behave like whatever gender is assigned at birth. Humans in society today have it fixed in their brains' that there is a specific way
of living and any other way of living is wrong. So when people start to behave and dress like the gender opposite of the one given at birth, they are
frowned upon and discriminated against. People fear things they do not understand and when that fear takes over, the misunderstood are treated poorly.
Unfortunately, transgender people are very misunderstood and are often discriminated against. Transgender people are constantly being judged and
ridiculed simply because they are different. It is true that accepting people that are different is difficult, but should a group of people be treated
unfairly for being themselves? This is a big problem transgender people deal with daily. Discrimination against transgender people has made their lives
really hard due to high unemployment rates, risk of incarceration, and constant threat of being harassed. Transgender people have so much to offer to
the world, but until people accept them for who they are, the world will never see that. For these reasons, transgender equality should be enforced

When he was a teenager, he would wear makeup to school as well, and the same things happened. Also, other kids would make fun of him. He bought
himself "chicken cutlets" to make it seem like he had breasts. When his younger brother ruined them and called him a freak, he ran crying into his
room. His mother chased after him and told him about water–proof mascara and she told him she'd buy him new ones. She supported him and he knew

What defines a person? Looks? Beliefs? Gender and sexual orientation? About 0.58% of all adults in the United States identify as transgender, which is
around 1,397,150 people. Society commonly feels as though transgender people are unnatural or disgusting, and they perform hate crimes because of
this fact. Why is that? How could these people target others simply because of their identity, despite said identity having really no impact on their
lives? The identity itself makes the transgender person uncomfortable because does it not match what the subcortical (meaning the area of the brain

Being myself around others is easy, but becoming myself is what has truly defined me. I had to discover my authentic self, despite the overwhelming
input and expectations of everyone and everything around me. Genetically, I was born into the world female, but inherently, I knew I was transgender
before even learning that "gender" was a word. I used to believe that someone had "made a mistake", because I was arbitrarily born in a girl's body. But
now I know, that was exactly where I was supposed to be. It would have been easier if I was just born genetically male, but I know my time spent

The most obvious challenges I have faced living as a transgender male have been physical, but the hardest I have faced have not only been
personal, but emotional. I have encountered countless overly personal inquisitions, questioning looks, and awkward introductions. Existing as a
biological female for a large portion of my life imbued that period of time with many challenges. As a child, I fought passionately with my parents
to shop in the "boys" section of the store, to play hockey and lacrosse, and to never step foot in a dress. I often wondered why other children would
point and snicker at my choice of clothing. I even asked my distraught mother why I was "put in the wrong body" at the age of three. I had to grow
up and not only learn, but understand and accept that I am not the same as everyone else. I had to come to terms with the fact that most people do
not face the challenge of waking up every day and overcoming the feeling that something is fundamentally "off" that cannot truly be "fixed".
"Average" is a description I often longed to be labeled in the past, but over the years I have discovered that striving to be above average is the true key

One out–group of mine is the community of people who are transgender. I do not identify with this community. In the United States, this group has

Undercutting our transgender community's economic aspirations may seem society's aim, but there exists opportunity for us to realize ambition by
changing the status quo. No more evident is this than in the hospitality I've been shown following my recent relocation from Missouri to California.
Statistics illustrate the nation's partiality for transgender workplace discrimination, and I can vouch for their authenticity. Let's just say, if Joseph Smith
was transgender, he'd have kept moving west past Missouri and Utah, as the nation's interior isn't the inclusive promised land. In 2010, while running
Missouri's transgender advocacy organization, I tried correcting this by teaming up with St. Louis City Alderman Shane Cohn to successfully extend
the municipal civil rights protections to transgender persons. Fast forward a few years, when I next found myself on the job market, homogeneity was
still the preferred approach to staffing.
My last role in the Midwest was as a spokesperson for St. Louis' Mayor's Office, rewarding in my development of private and public partnerships that
bettered resident's quality of life. Yet, when I realized it was time for a change, I quickly realized my local Wanted Ads lacked a category for
