Diwali is the most important festival in India celebrated to mark the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil. During the holidays, people wear new clothes, share sweets, decorate their houses, set off fireworks and firecrackers, and light up the cities at night. The multi-day festival begins on Dhanteras and ends on Bhau-beej, usually falling eighteen days later on the Hindu lunar calendar.
