3. UNDERSTANDING THE IMPORTANCE OF CONFIDENTIALITY IN
HEALTHCARE (HIPAA)
HIPAA Privacy- Requires all
professionals and
organizations to guard
private information of their
patients and customers
individually, identifiable,
health information

HIPAA Security- Requires
Individuals to provide written
consent for any release of
medical or health related
information. The security
rule can also allow
parameters of security on
who has the right to access,
view or disclose information
with or without consent

4. HEALTHCARE WORKERS RULES ON CONFIDENTIALITY
HIPAA- Allows access to healthcare professionals
who are in the patients care to access health
information for treatment, billing, payment and
general healthcare operations HHS.gov(2015).
HIPAA- Does Not mean that healthcare workers
should utilize private information for their personal
access, gain and or disclosure as that is a violation of
the rule HHS.gov(2015).
5. CONFIDENTIALITY CONCLUSION
Conclusion - Healthcare workers should consider
the legal, risks, and other aspects that will/can
create financial implications due to the outcome
from misusing, access ,and disclosure of
confidential health information that is accessed
against the patients consent.
