2. Group: Michael, Evaristo Sarah & Owen
Roles:
Sarah- Camera person
Michael- Assistant Camera person & Editor
Evaristo- Actor & Editor
Owen- Actor & Editor
Issues: Time management due to external
factors, lack of accuracy with storyboard and a
Faulty tape.
3. Improvements: Quality of story board (more
clarity in designs) This could also be seen as the
accuracy of the storyboard as it is how close the
written designs are similar to the actual prelim.
Improvement: Editing Rotas. I would suggest
rotas should be formed for the editing as it may
be a more quicker and efficient way of doing
things.
4. Planning: Group discussions had taken place
and a story board was made to help form our
ideas and structure them.
5. The Technology used was a ‘Cannon HD
Camera’. A lot of care to be taken using this
camera as is cost a lot of money, also a lot of
checks and adjustments had to be done and
made every time the camera was about to be
used. Additionally I would suggest when using
this form of technology you must make sure
that you are confident with all the types of
shots and technical terms.
We used the software ‘Adobe premier’ for
editing
6. Things to consider: when planning our prelim
we had to consider the amount and type of
space we had to work with. E.g. Different
levels of ground we had to work with and the
size of rooms we could work with.
Furthermore we had to consider the timing of
the transitions
Also we had to consider whether the shots we
had taken are suitable and usable for shot that
we wants to get.
7. Overall I believe my groups Prelim task was
rather successful as we did not encounter any
major problems and our prelim ran smoothly.
With our sequence I believe the thing that
worked well is the proportions of all the shorts,
they were mostly accurate.
Although our task was successful if we were to
do it again an aspect that I would attempt to
improve is the clarity of the dialogue
throughout the sequences and considering the
appropriate shots for what is happening .
8. From this task I have learnt that one sequence
can be shot from every angle to have a sense of
professionalism and variety.
Furthermore I have learnt that time
management is key as this effects what you get
done and sometimes the quality of your final
outcome.
Finally I have learnt that a good base of
knowledge is key when using the camera or
any software.
9. From the editing aspect of this task I have
realised it is extremely important to know the
order of your sequence as this will help you to
know what parts to cut and put together.
Patience and care are two characteristics
required when editing
When my group wanted to make decisions we
all consulted in each other to make things
easier and quicker.
Editor's Notes
1.In this task I worked with Michael, Evaristo and Sarah. In order for our group to work efficiently we appointed different roles to each individual such as; me (Owen) and Evaristo actors during the process of filming the prelim also editors of the prelim, Sarah camerawoman, Michael assistant cameraman and they also were editors of the prelim. In order for our group to complete the prelim we had to all give up time from our lunch and after school hours. This was done as we all had different free periods and various free time.At the start of our task our group had a minor issue with time management as we had to make a few adjustments to our story board as we were going to change a couple shots. The problems that my group came up against had to do with the tape that we were given. The tape was faulty and not clear when shots had been recorded over, however the filming was still usable so we still carried on. Also another problem my group encountered was the tape not working during our groups filiming time, this meant that were delayed in time. We dealt with this issue easily by taking extra time on another day to complete the shots.
2.If me and my group were do the prelim task again there are some things I would like to do differently of better. One of the things I would like to do better is the story board that we first done at the start as the drawings could have been much clearer and of better quality. By quality I mean better accuracy of the drawings compared to the final product. In addition if my group were to do the prelim task again I would suggest a rota of when each person will be editing the film. I believe this would be a better way of doing things as I think this would have been more efficient as too many people trying to do one task can sometimes be chaos.
3.To plan our sequence my group did a written story board. This is a image formed layour that consisted of 14 frames showing clear drawings of how our sequence had been planned to be shot.
4.The technology used to complete this task was ‘Adobe Premier’. We used this software to put all of our sequences together which was done using the cutting tool mainly. When using the ‘Cannon HD Cameras’ I firstly learnt that a huge amount of care must be taken when around of using the camera and they cost alot of money. Secondly I have learnt that before using the camera there are a lot of checks you must do such as the spirit level, camera focus and level of the tripod. This is so that you can get the best quality out of your camera as all these factors can effect the quality of your film.
5.When planning we had to consider the space that we had available to our use, the time we had to fit in these shots and what camera angles we wanted to use. When shooting we had to consider the proportion of the frame so that we were not using too much or too little space in the frame. Also when shooting we had to consider whether the shots we had taken were taken correctly and good enough for us to use. Additionally when editing we had to consider the timing of the transitions from shot to shot. This was so that our shots all interlocked with each other and ran smoothly.
6.I believe our sequence was very successful as we hardly encountered any problems at the end and our prelim meets all criteria's. I believe the main thing that worked well with our sequence is the timing as it is all accurate and runs smooth which is due to the large contribution of our group. However if I was to do it again the main thing that I would improve is the clarity of the speak and accuracy which could have been done by taking more care and more shots with scenes with longer dialogue.
7.From completing this task I have learnt that when creating a sequence in media the same scenes are shot from different angles various times in order to get different reactions and speeches. The time management skills required for this task was organisation and efficiency. It was important to know what was after what as this made the process a lot quicker also, efficiency was important as being efficient with time meant that we were not rushing and sometimes possibly there could have spare time to go over any corrections or add anything. Furthermore good technical skills were required for this task as if you struggled to work the camera or computer software this could slow the group down and make everyone fall behind time.
8.From the editing process I have learnt that it is important to know the order of your shots and what happens after what. Also I have learnt that the editing process is a long procedure and if it is rushed your product will not look good. To complete the editing task my group decided to stay back at a lunch time and finish off the work. When making decisions to do with editing we always consulted with one another
