This document provides an overview of health-related quality of life (HRQOL) concepts and measurement. It discusses how the CDC measures HRQOL through its Healthy Days measures, which assess physical and mental health over the past 30 days. The document presents data showing relationships between certain health behaviors like smoking and physical activity with number of unhealthy days. Students are assigned to review an article on the CDC site about a health behavior's impact on HRQOL, propose a theoretically-based intervention, and write a paper describing the article findings, proposed intervention, and expected impact on behavior and HRQOL. More advanced students should also include an intervention evaluation plan.
