"I used to think it was marble, but when I tapped the statue the sound it gave was not the one you get when you strike
against marble. As we were scrapping off the layers of paint I found the statue to be made of porcelain”
You won't find a statue of this type anywhere else in the world," Desai said, as he and Chari chipped away at the
paint that has accumulated over the statue on Thursday evening.
"It is made entirely of porcelain and has three joints. The statue has been badly violated. We have found 18 layers of
paint over the statue whose original colour is a light cream," Desai added.
There are few large porcelain statues in the world. This one is over 5 feet in length and has stood in the garden for
decades being scorched by the sun, drenched by the rain and engulfed by the exhaust fumes of vehicles that whizz
past it. So neglected has the statue been, except of course for the occasional coat of paint, that not much is known of
its history.
Describing the statue Desai said, "It has a Mona Lisa sort of smile and very Greek features." The duo working on the
statue's restoration believe it was brought from Europe, with records of its existence found even as far back as 1939.
It's a very beautiful work with much detail, even the muscles are typically female," Desai said, as Chari, who crafts
images of stone for temples, nodded in agreement.
What statue am I talking about?

From the Latin verb “I fall” as a euphemism for dying, ie "the
fallen one".
This etymology is found as early as 200 CE in the writings of
Tertullian.
A folk etymology derives this term syllabically from the Latin
expression for (flesh given to worms). This etymology, more
popular in Romance countries, can be traced back as early
as the Middle Ages.
Recently though, in Sanskrit class, I discovered that this term
is pronounced almost the exact same way with the difference
of a single consonant.

X is a genre of alternative rock that originated in the United
States and the United Kingdom in the 1980s. Originally used to
describe independent record labels, the term became
associated with the music they produced and was initially used
interchangeably with "alternative rock".
As grunge and punk revival bands in the US, and then Britpop
bands in the UK, broke into the mainstream in the 1990s, it
came to be used to identify those acts that retained an outsider
and underground perspective. In the 2000s, as a result of
changes in the music industry and the growing importance of
the Internet, some X acts began to enjoy commercial success,
leading to questions about its meaningfulness as a term.
