Get Singing and Get Healthy!


If you're feeling blue sing a happy song - it will lift your spirits! True. There
are proven physical and psychological health benefits associated with singing.
Here are some of them:




   •   Singing improves circulation and digestion.

   •   Singing is an aerobic exercise also increases oxygen levels in the blood.

   •   Singing expands lung capacity and when airflow is enhanced in the
       respiratory tract, bacteria have less chance to flourish so this can
       counter cold symptoms.

   •   Singing requires deep breathing so it is a stress-buster, lowering blood
       pressure, and is good for the nervous system.

   •   Singing boosts immunity by producing proteins that function as anti-
       bodies.

   •   Singing helps to tone muscles in the face and the stomach and posture
       is improved.
•   Singing triggers the release of feel-good endorphins which make a
    person feel happier and more positive. Those endorphins are also
    natural pain-killers, and natural anti-depressants. Happier people
    often have fewer physical health problems.

•   Singing is joyful and uplifting - giving us a natural high. Singing
    together is an incredible adrenaline rush.


•   Choirs and singing groups help people connect, make friends, and form
    social bonds.

•   Singing is good for society because people in choirs are often more
    likely to be involved in their communities.

•   And apart from anything else, singing is fun!

•   Two of my favourite quotes about singing are 'He who sings frightens
    away all his ills' (traditional); and 'The only thing better than singing is
    more singing' (Ella Fitzgerald).
