believes that they know us" (Steinem). The subject of family is a broad one, as family is a term everyone seems to know, but at the same time, it has
a different meaning to all of us; therefore, families are indeed a tricky subject to study. When one thinks of the idealfamily, they may imagine a
close–knit group of individuals who support, care, and love each other, rather they are blood–related or not. Unfortunately, most individuals don't
experience this as their family life. Until now, I never knew the extent of the hostility and division that various events such as divorce and
hospitalizations brought unto my family. While conducting my research, I learned that my family is no outlier, as they have dealt with adultery,
abuse, illness, division, and death. Ideally your family defines who you are as a person, but in this paper we are going to look at individuals who
never had a steady family life, thus using their own personal experiences to define themselves at a young age. Along with that, we are going to
showcase a family that fell apart due to excessive separation and unfaithfulness. In this paper, I will highlight these events while also comparing them
with the myriad of data and research that I have learned throughout my time in the Marriage and Families class.

The Social Problem Of Family Violence And Abuse
The social problem I decided to discuss is the subject of family violence and abuse, which includes spouses and children. Now, as Ember and
Ember explain in the text, in order to deal with violence within families, we must first decide on what should be classified as abuse and what is not
(Ember & Ember, pg. 230). The word abuse can have various definitions across cultures, as not everyone thinks of it in the same way. To some, hitting
a child is a perfectly acceptable form of punishment and of wife– beating can be seen in a male–dominating household as a necessary act to keep a
spouse "in check." I personally believe that abuse can be defined as the repeatedly cruel or violent treatment of someone, mainly intended to do harm
against that person. I believe that in order to combat this problem, there is a few main actions that can be done that can at least reduce the amount of

Many people say that they are scared to let people into their lives, but my family loves to let other people into our lives. For example we have let
in many kids that either don't have a good family life, live far away from school, or don't have enough money to provide for themselves. It is
