PRIMO Mobile: A Mobile Solution for Field Representatives
Problem Statement
Field/Sales representatives in pharmaceutical companies are required to report adverse event (AE)
information they learn about while in the field. Typically, this requirement is met by completing an AE
form and faxing these forms back to the company’s pharmacovigilance department for further review.
Recent regulatory citations for lack of compliance among several large pharmaceutical companies
highlight the challenges of effectively collecting patient and adverse event data in the field. There are
several factors that contribute to this AE data intake problem.
1. The current AE data collection practice performed by field representatives is still predominately
paper and fax based. This is an inefficient way of processing data as it is done manually with a
need for human involvement from beginning to end. Life science companies need a reliable,
easy-to-use system to streamline the process.
2. The manual practice inevitably creates data entry issues, such as dual entry, data entry mistakes,
delays or even missing critical AE data in the field. A modern solution that links the company’s
field representatives with the pharmacovigilance team, and has both parties “talking” within the
same platform is a key to improve regulatory compliance and data quality in the AE
management process.
3. Although a large volume of the initial AE reports are generated by field representatives overall,
