PATIENTS will bene⛈t from a change of ownership at two Gladstone
region medical centres.
Medi⛈eld has taken over Gladstone Valley Medical Centre and Calliope
Medical Centre.
The company is made up of four doctors, which founder Dr Maurice
McGree said was a key point of di퇐erence from practices owned by
other groups or businesses.
"We believe that because it is doctors that have ownership that we will
have more interest in the running of the clinic and the care of the
patients, rather than if it was owned by a businessman or someone
apart from the clinic," he said.
"The owners of this clinic are actually working in it."
Making up Medi⛈eld team are Dr Nishantha Herath, Dr Maurice McGree, Dr Sarangi Ratnayake
and Dr Deanne Anderson.
O漾cially taking over the two practices on March 24, the process has taken almost two years.
Dr McGree said so far the changeover had gone well.
"We will be improving the IT and the technology and those things," he said.
The name Medi⛈eld has signi⛈cant meaning for Dr McGree.
He named the company after the ⛈eld that he used to play on as a student of Gladstone's Star
of Sea Catholic Primary School in the 1940s.
There used to be a vacant lot called "the ⛈eld", where the Gladstone Valley Medical Centre now
sits, by the nuns of the school who sent students there to play.
MEDIFIELD: Dr Sarangi Ratnayake, Dr Nishantha Herath, Dr Deanne Anderson and Dr Maurice McGree are the proud
co-owners of the Gladstone Valley Medical Centre and Calliope Medical Centre.
