After being born and raised in Texas, moving to NYC was an exciting change of pace for Wayne Pollard. Wayne is a recent graduate of Howard University and he is currently in his second rotation in our Human Resources Emerging Leaders Program. WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR MOST MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE IN
THE EMERGING LEADERS PROGRAM?
Although I have had a number of memorable experiences in my rotation in
Compensation and Benefits, I would say that my most memorable experience thus
far has been recruiting at Howard. It was great to be able to share my experiences
and advocate for Nielsen in front of people that I had been in classes with only a
few months before.

2. ARE THERE ANY PARTICULAR PEOPLE OR SKILL-SETS YOU’VE
GAINED DURING YOUR TIME IN THE ELP THAT HELPED
SHAPE THE PERSON YOU ARE TODAY?
As far as concrete skills, I have learned more excel tricks than I can count thanks
to the Compensation team. My presentation skills have greatly increased after
leading year-end trainings and spreading awareness of the Global Support Fund
(scheduled to launch in February). In terms of people skills, being in HR has
made me much more thoughtful in the way I approach conversations in and
outside of work.
WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED FROM THE PROGRAM SO FAR?
Ask for feedback regularly from your managers and peers. Whether it be a
presentation you did, or content of a deck you created, ask for feedback. We
joined this program to develop into better leaders so that we could make greater
impact and add value. A tip here or there from an outside perspective can make a
big difference in your performance and growth.
OUTSIDE OF WORK, HOW DO YOU SPEND YOUR TIME?
You can usually find me reading, exercising, traveling, eating and enjoying the
NYC nightlife.
WHAT ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF AT NIELSEN?
I am most proud of the support structure that we have at Nielsen. From my peers
to senior leaders, everyone seems really invested in the work of others around
them rather than just their own. If I ever have a question, my fellow associates are
always willing to stop what they are doing to answer the question or set up some
time with me to tell me more about their role at Nielsen.
