1. Dear Colleague,
Join the VetXML Consortium today!
Following the increased use of practice management systems (PMS) in veterinary practice, it was identified that
practice communications and data sharing needed to be improved.
In 2006, the Society of Practising Veterinary Surgeons (SPVS) established the VetXML Consortium – an industry
body, which today is leading the way in the veterinary world in its development of a universal language that
facilitates electronic data exchange between practice management systems and suppliers.
VetXML is an industry standard data format through which veterinary systems can easily send and receive data.
Until recently, practices were restricted by the timely and costly processing and sharing of data non-electronically;
that is, via paper or fax. However, with VetXML, electronic insurance claims, lab results, microchipping forms,
benchmarking reports, and much more, can be processed and monitored quickly and securely.
The Consortium and its dedication to the development of VetXML continues to grow in its membership. From
practice management vendors, technology and financial services, and veterinary practitioners, to insurance,
laboratory, microchipping and pet nutrition businesses, VetXML’s members span the industry.
We have also received great interest from veterinary associations, government bodies, US organisations and
pharmaceutical companies. Similarly, future features of VetXML will include automated data sheets, clinical
record transfer, electronic ordering and clinical evidence and auditing.
With continued growth and interest from practices, PMS providers and industry suppliers alike, isn’t it time you
spoke the language?
