Come second Sunday of May, it’s time of the year to celebrate Mother’s day.
“Mother” – one relation but so much essence, so much emotion and so much
love. Every year during this time, the whole world comes alive to pay tributes to
their mothers. Mothers over the centuries to till today are synonyms of love,
sacrifice, care, purity and source of encouragement. They have always juggled
their roles in accordance with the needs of the family. They were and are the
heart of every family.
Moms these days are stepping out of their conventional roles
into a whole new arena. An arena where they are shoulder to shoulder with their
male counterparts, an arena where they have not ventured before, an arena
which was traditionally not considered theirs. Yes, they are heading towards
carving niche of their own. It’s time to make way for Mompreneurs!
Mompreneurs is a rising phenomenon where moms choose to start up a business
while bringing up children. So on this mother’s day, we bring to you the success
stories of 5 mompreneurs who made a name for themselves.
On the desi platform, we have,
1. Suchi Mukherjee, CEO, Limeroad
Before setting up ecommerce fashion website
LimeRoad, Suchi Mukherjee held top jobs at
eBay, Skype and Gumtree. It was after the
birth of her son, during the maternity leave that
the idea of limeroad was conceived. It was a
tough period for the family as she had to leave
her son and daughter in London every month
to travel to India. Today, Limeroad has come a
long way; it was Ranked No.1 in Business Today Coolest Startup Awards 2015.
 Backed the second place in Economic Times Start Up Awards 2015[9]
Featured amongst the top 25 in the Mint E-Commerce Power List 2015

2. Shahnaz Husain, CEO, Shahnaz Herbals
Becoming wife and Mother at a very young age of
16, Shahnaz Husain always thought that she was not
meant to be a housewife as others of her age were, so
she started studying beauty at 17 and went on from
London to Paris, Germany, Denmark and New York
building her career. Today nearly after 4 decades,
Shahnaz Husain is CEO of Shahnaz Herbals Inc and a
prominent Indian female entrepreneur, who is best
known for her herbal cosmetics, particularly skin care
products. The Shahnaz Husain Group has over 400 franchise clinics
across the world covering over 138 countries. Success Magazine has
awarded her "World's Greatest Woman Entrepreneur" award in 1996 and
Government of India awarded her with the Padma Shri in the year 2006.
3. Vandana Luthra, founder, VLCC
VLCC was initially set up as a wellness center with focus on health and
beauty on a small bank loan in the locality of Safdarjung in New Delhi,
now has its presence in 11 countries.
Awarded the Padma Shri in 2013 for
her contribution in the field of trade
and industry, Vandana was also listed
in Fortune India in 2015 as the
33rd
most powerful woman in business
in India. Given her expertise in the
field, the current Modi government has
appointed her as the Chairperson of the
Beauty & Wellness Sector Skill
Council. She is also a General Body
Member of the New Delhi-based
Morarji Desai National Institute of
Yoga and a member of both the Steering Committee and the Sub-
Committee formed by India’s Ministry of Skill Development &

number 12 in Forbes' first ever list of the
