2. The Faculty of Engineering, Built
Environment and Information
Technology (EBIT)
is situated at the main campus of
the
University of Pretoria in Hatfield
3. EBIT Faculty offers internationally competitive and locally
relevant education, research and community
involvement in the Engineering, built environment and
information technology professions.
The Faculty has extensive and cutting-edge teaching,
learning and laboratory facilities integrated with the
excellent suite of facilities and services offered by the
University.
High quality graduates that will make a meaningful
contribution to society
4. The EBIT Faculty comprises of four
schools:
• The School of Engineering
• The School for the Built Environment
• The School of Information Technology
and
• The Graduate School of Technology
Management (GSTM)
5. The School of Engineering
This is the largest School of its kind in the country in terms of student numbers,
graduates and research contributions and offers programmes in all the major
engineering disciplines, with many specialisations also offered at undergraduate
and graduate level. This School offers a wide range of accredited programs,
leading professors and excellent students and facilities. The school also has close
cooperation with industry.
The School of Engineering offers BEng degree in the following disciplines:
•Chemical Engineering
•Civil Engineering
•Computer, Electrical and Electronic Engineering
•Industrial and Systems Engineering
•Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering
•Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering
•Mining Engineering
6. ENGineering Augmented Degree Programme (ENGAGE)
The School of Engineering also offers degrees in an extended program; ENGAGE The
goal is to increase ACCESS and SUCCESS for Engineering students who have the
potential but do not meet the normal entry requirements
This programme affords students more time in the initial three years and supports
them better. Modules in the ENGAGE Programme
Year 1
Basic Sciences plus Additional Modules Professional Orientation
Year 2
Level 1 Engineering
Level 2 Mathematics
Additional Modules
Year 3
Level 2
Engineering
Year 4
Same as
mainstream
year 3
Year 5
7. The School for the Built Environment
Offers the entire spectrum of programmes in the Built Environment, with studio-based
education in the architectural degrees and close ties and alignment with the building
industry.
The School offers the following programmes:
•BSc Architecture
•BSc Interior Architecture

8. The School of Information
Technologystudents have the advantage
Its unique and the first of its kind in South Africa, where
of an integrated approach to Information Technology (IT) with study programmes
and modern laboratories in Computer Science, Informatics and Information Science.
The School of Information Technology also accommodates students with potential
who need additional development and support to meaningfully participate in our
programs:
Extended programs (4 year programmes) in IT extend the existing three year
programmes to four year programmes.
This caters for students who wish to enter degrees within SIT without the necessary
pre-requisites for the degree.
Two extended programmes:
•BSc IT (Information and Knowledge Systems)
•BIS (Multimedia)
9. Excellent facilities: Eng 1, 2, 3 …
• Student numbers increased significantly over
the last decade with a pass rate of 82 %
(Module Pass Rate of first years)
• This number is expected to grow due to the
attraction of the recently opened
Engineering Study Centre which
accommodates over 800 students
