2. Who?
Artist. Claude Monet was a famous French painter
whose work gave a name to the art movement
Impressionism which was concerned with capturing
light and natural forms.
3. Impressionism?
Technique with short, thick strokes of paint
quickly capture the essence of the subject,
rather than its details. The paint is often applied
impasto.

5. First steps
Monet`s first teacher was
Eugène Boudin, who
encouraged him to paint out of
doors.
Monet studied with Charles
Gleyre. Through Gleyre, Monet
met several other artists, including
Auguste Renoir,Alfred Sisley, and
Frederic Bazille.
His first work, which was
recognized by critics became the
portrait Camille (or also
called Woman in Green).
6. A new stream
One of the most well-known Monet`s
work “Impression. Sunrise” had a
great success at the Salon in 1874 and
gave name to the new stream in
painting – Impressionism.
The artist live in Paris and paint the
landscapes of the city. He pay more
attention to the light in his works.
Monet`s wife, Camille, was the
greatest source of his inspiration. But
in 1879 she died. Monet`s desire to
create dead with her.
7. Giverny
After the death of his wife Monet
rented a house in Giverny, where he
started to work at his probably best-
known series “Water-Lily pond”.
At that time he created a lot of
series of the same landscape at
the different times of day.
In 1920s Monet is still painting,
despite the fact of having a lung
cancer. He dies on December 5th
in 1926.
