Statement of qualifications:
My career as an English language educator has been somewhat unusual. I've taught and
tutored English as a second (or foreign) language in many different settings and levels before
working on my MA in TESOL. My experiences comprise of teaching ESL for vocational and
academic purposes to both adult and international students. I've learned a great deal by engaging
students at every level in these varied settings. During this time, I also assisted in developing
many curriculum specific to the learners’ needs. Consequently, I've found my passion in teaching
new language learners about English grammar, reading, writing, and conversation.
After my oversea teaching trip, I've realized the need to improve my current knowledge
and attain necessary tools to teach English more effectively. I finally got the chance to work on
my Masters degree in TESOL in 2013. Although it is unusual to teach first and seek a degree
later, there are benefits to the reversed order. The latest theories and most recent work in second
language acquisition were discussed in my classes. I am able to gain and understand how the
theories of second language acquisition, applied linguistics, curriculum development, second
language reading and writing, assessing and placement, and cross-cultural communication are
related to actual teaching practices.
I have worked hard to establish professional relationships with my students so that they
would feel relaxed and talk responsively with me. I am a versatile teacher and a realistic advisor.
As you look over my resume, you will see that my adaptability and varied experience make me a
serious candidate who can meet the demands of ESL teaching. I look forward to hearing from
you.
Sincerely,
Nathapong Shugan
