The Xanthi Carnival is one of the biggest carnivals in Greece, attracting thousands of visitors each year from Northern Greece and the Balkans to experience music, dancing, theater, art exhibitions and other events. During the carnival season, the narrow streets and main square of Xanthi's Old Town host wild parties with traditional dancing and customs. The carnival culminates with a spectacular parade and the burning of Tzara effigy along the Kosynthos river bridge.
