I intend to study to become versatile and proficient in the field of occupational health and safety.
My passion for occupational health and Safety was hatched during my industrial attachment at a construction firm in (Enugu) Nigeria. It introduced me to different challenges, gaps in regulations and implementation of Occupational Health and Safety Policies in the sector as I watched the workers work with almost zero orientation and knowledge of workplace hazards and measures for protection.
Thereafter, I have worked in different companies including Beverage Bottling Companies, Mechanical Workshops, Oil and Gas Companies, Law firms, Construction, Mining and Quarrying Industries. In some of these companies, I was charged with the responsibility of direct monitoring and implementation of occupational health and safety and while I always relied mostly on my personal study to turn things around for good and my performance earned most of the companies some significant safety awards and recognition in the industry; I know that I can be more and I can do more and so I strongly desire more knowledge in this field.
It is therefore my utmost wish to do an indebt study into risk assessment in both workplace and environment, acquire knowledge and skills that will equip me to conduct independent research in this field to enable me solve, examine and understand most occupational health and safety challenges in relation with the environment, predict future areas of challenges as well as develop and build educational programs for schools and research institutes to combat these challenges. I also have a strong passion for mentoring and training young professionals who will develop passion for this field and infuse occupational health and safety principles to all human activity.
After a successful completion of my course of study, I hope my experience will help me foster my working relationship with regulatory Authorities in Nigeria to push for a more standard occupational health and Safety rules and regulation in my country.
One of my aims is to get every child in the rural and urban area in my country to make occupational health and safety a lifestyle and ensure their activity does not endanger the environment.
I hope to explore the wealth of experience of my lecturers /professors and other course mates to bring to bear already existing scenarios; environmental issues and future work processes with the view to identify hazards and risk, and proffer remedy or better ways of carrying out the processes .This will be done through documenting Standard Operating Procedure which will consider working with minimum risk and hazard in the most reasonable and practicable way

My passion for occupational health and Safety was hatched
during my industrial attachment at a construction firm in

Safety Policies in the sector as I watched the workers work with
almost zero orientation and knowledge of workplace hazards

2. regulatory Authorities in Nigeria to push for a more standard
occupational health and Safety rules and regulation in my
country.
One of my aims is to get every child in the rural and urban area
in my country to make occupational health and safety a lifestyle
and ensure their activity does not endanger the environment.
I hope to explore the wealth of experience of my lecturers
/professors and other course mates to bring to bear already

processes with the view to identify hazards and risk, and proffer

be done through documenting Standard Operating Procedure
which will consider working with minimum risk and hazard in
the most reasonable and practicable way
In my background, I have had some imputes in the educational
development of occupational health and safety by mentoring
young visiting professionals in most organizations I have
worked in as I was charged with the responsibility of giving
them tour around the facility. I was a guest speaker at a Health
and Safety Week for our Nigerian Air force in Makurdi. I have
been a motivation to some university students on excursion,
secondary school students and nursery school pupils. I was able
to introduce them to Occupational Health and Safety and also
mentor the young professionals on the career path to
Occupational health and Safety. For this purpose I also
undertook a post graduate diploma in education to prepare
myself or have a better understanding of preparing educational
curriculum and have a better understanding of training needs for
diverse fields.
My ambition is to share my knowledge through mentoring, and
also introducing the occupational health and safety course to as
many tertiary institutions, secondary and primary schools as
possible. I intend to make Safety a way of life in my country
and not just only a practice for workplace. Only few universities
offer occupational health and safety in Nigeria, I hope to work
as a Consultant, to assist more universities in Nigeria to meet
3. up with accreditation requirements for the approval of the Study
of Occupation and Environmental Health and Safety Courses as
a profession In Universities both at Masters Level and PHD
Level.
Giving back to the society will not be left out as I have also in
the same vein registered a company for my training facility and
skill acquisition which is intended to empower youths.
I have taken various Certification courses in occupational health
and safety like the NEBOSH, registered as Certified Engineer in
my country and other various National and International
professional bodies. In addition, I have acquired some Post
Graduate qualification in Education in my country, and other
Certification to properly get me equipped for the challenges
associated with the profession. I feel that studying MSC in
Health Safety and Environment will help me acquire the
expertise I need to achieve my goal.
After going through the school’s vision and values statement
with program outcomes, studying this program at your
university handles all the training need I require in this field.
The occupational health and safety is a diverse field of study
and this requires a strong theoretical and scientific knowledge
on health issues, and expertise in practical issues of policy
implementation and legal matters.
This course is ideal for advancement in my professional career
as an Occupational Health and Safety Professional both for my
public and private practice .My previous job and study
experiences will help me succeed in studying this course, I also
intend to pursue PHD in future and achieve all my career
expectation in occupational health and safety. I have held some
professional portfolios that have helped me develop my
communication skills and proffer solution to areas of impending
problem. I have worked as a safety coordinator, a safety
engineer and a company Safety Engineer. I currently represent
the company I work for in Nigeria and some of my tasks
involves training staff ,Emergency evacuation ,conducting HSE
audit , keeping company HSE records, drawing up policy and
4. implementation of the later in the company , working with
regulatory authorities and government agencies to implement
HSE laws . The training aspect of my job requires
understanding the various staff and their fields of specialization
and preparing further job specific training programs for the
work force.
Finally, studying this course in your school will afford me the
opportunity to understand the intricacies of occupational health
and safety while arming me with formidable knowledge and
confidence to forge ahead in this promising career in our
dynamic world.
