Surrey CCC extended Sangakkara contract for one year
Kumar Sangakkara, the former Sri Lankan captain, resigned with the English county
membership Surrey on Friday (September 23) for a one-year length. The brand new deal will
see Sangakkara in action for a new season in the county circuit thru to the tip of the 2017
season. Sangakkara retired from international cricket in 2015 having recorded more than
28,000 runs across all formats, with a Test average of 57.40. He has been with County
Championship side Surrey for the past two seasons and will now play at least one more year
after penning the new deal.
The declaration on Surrey’s official twitter account read: “Surrey CCC are very pleased to
announce that Kumar Sangakkara has signed a new one-year contract for the 2017 season.”
The 38-year-old featured in Surrey's heavy eight-wicket defeat in the Royal London One-Day
Cup final to Warwickshire on Saturday. Sangakkara succeeded to score 21 runs off 39 balls as
Surrey finished up all out for 136. Warwickshire cruised past Surrey's score after just 30.2 overs;
with Jonathan Trott scoring 82 not out.
