Jimmy Adams quit Kent head coach role
Jamaican Jimmy Adams has resigned as head coach of English county cricket side Kent after five
years, further fuelling conjecture he will take over the empty role of the West Indies head
coach. The former West Indies captain took control at Kent ahead of the 2012 season. The
club’s second place finish in Division Two in 2016 was the highest during Adams’ tenure. Only
last month, the 48-year-old former West Indies captain was connected to the post after
Trinidadian Phil Simmons was suddenly sacked by the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), on the
eve of the current tour of Pakistan.
Adams, who played 54 Test matches and 127 one-day internationals for West Indies, saw his
team hardly miss out in 2016 with only one promotion place up for grabs as Division One is
reduced to eight sides for the 2017 summer. He enjoyed perhaps his finest season in the south-
east in the recently concluded movement when Kent finished second. Jimmy said that, I have
appreciated my time at Kent which has been a great learning knowledge for me. I wanted to be
involved in a club that was looking for, to grow and I am blessed to have found that here at
Kent over the past five seasons.
It's been a enjoyment being involved with all our players as they have developed during the
period and especially watching the younger players who have made the step up to first class
level. Adams, who now stands a potential candidate for the West Indies coaching role, was
pivotal behind grooming the likes of Sam Billings, SamNortheast and Daniel Bell-Drummond at
Kent. Although, the now former coach faced some blame for the way he handles Matt Coles’
notorious disciplinary issues, Adams was praise by Kent Chairman for his services. The
Kent management express gratitude Jimmy for his fine facility of the club and wished him all
the greatest for the future.
