2. The United Nations’ World Commission on Environment and Development has defined sustainable
development in its 1987 report entitled “Our common future: A development model that can meet our
current needs without compromising future generations to meet their needs” (Fan & Chang, 2021).
Dervitsiotis, (2010) also opines that organizations have to constantly evolve themselves keeping in
mind the economic and social factors. To meet these needs the businesses need to have a
long-term commitment towards financial, social, natural, human capital at all levels from strategic to
the operational level (Rocha-Lona et al., 2015; Zink, 2007).
Keeping this in mind this conference invites papers from both academicians to corporate delegates
involving various aspects of business such as Marketing, Finance, Management, Accounting, Taxation,
HR, Operations, Supply Chain, Entrepreneurship, etc. This gives an ample opportunity and a platform
for all researchers, academicians, and business practitioners to exchange their ideas with various
concepts, theories, and models.
About
the Conference
The world of business is going through trying times as it tries to resurrect itself after the hammer blow
of the pandemic. Large corporations have suffered much, but they have the deep pockets to ride out
any limited duration crisis. Smaller business with limited resources has been hit much harder. So many
of them have either shut shop or had to lay off some of their workforces. Unemployment skyrocketed
in the immediate aftermath of the pandemic, leading to a shrinking of consumption and spending in
general in the economies. Developed, developing and underdeveloped economies have felt the
impact of the recession to a greater and lesser extent, and are all struggling to come out of the rut.
In the unique backdrop of the world economy that the present generations have had to face, the
special issue titled “Contemporary Issues in Sustainable Business Excellence” would be a relevant,
timely, and focused investigation into fresh strategies that work in the present volatile economic
environment. The sustainability of business entities is a burning issue that must be given its due
attention by the world of academia, as it concerns the overall well-being of society in general. Only
through renewed and continued excellence can businesses survive with limited resources, in the wake
of lost customer base, reduced talent pool, disruption in infrastructure due to the pressure to switch to
work-from-home mode and back to workplace mode, and all the other nuances of the new normal.
