BYC ‘Making Democracy Happen’ – For A-
level students only (Y12-13)

This workshop is all about politics - what is
political action, why is it important, and
how can you get involved. The British Youth
Council is the biggest organisation in the
country dedicated to empowering young
people to have their say and be heard. If
you want to change things in the area
where you live, if you’re interested in
studying politics at university, or if you
dream of being the next Prime Minister,
this is the course for you!
You will be supported by UCL students and
offered a tour of the campus at the end of
the workshop.
DebateMate ‘Debating: Law and Order’ –
For A-level students only (Y12-13)
Tuesday 26 October 2010
This session will improve your debating
skills, with a special focus on law and order.
You will learn to construct a persuasive
argument to use in university interviews (or
in court!) and you will also have an
opportunity to debate some key issues
about law and order in Britain today. If you
want to study law at university, or want to
debate issues like the death penalty, knife
crime and criminal justice, sign up!
You will be supported by UCL law students
and offered a tour of the campus at the end
of the workshop.
2. First Aid for GCSE (Y10-11)
Wednesday 27 October 2010
A basic introduction to first aid, taught by a
qualified nurse from the Royal Free
Hospital. If you want to know more about
how to act in an emergency, or if you’re
considering medicine as a career, this is the
course for you. You will be supported by
UCL medical students and offered a tour of
the campus at the end of the workshop.
Self-Defence for GCSE and A-level (Y10-13)

This interactive course covers all the basic
skills to defend yourself. Taught by an ex-
Metropolitan Police Officer, the workshop
focuses on personal defence staying
safe.You don’t need to wear sports clothes
or shoes – normal clothes are fine.
You will be supported by UCL students and
offered a tour of the campus at the end of
the workshop.
SpeakersBank ‘Talking Enterprise’ – For A-
level students only (Y12-13)

For any aspiring Alan Sugars! This course
will teach you how important public
speaking is in business – from presenting
yourself in front of a small team to pitching
an idea at a big meeting. You’ll learn lots of
ways to improve your public speaking, how
to overcome stage fright and how to clearly
present your ideas. This workshop will finish
in a ‘Dragon’s Den’ competition, to show off
everything you’ve learnt!

students and offered a tour of the campus
at the end of the workshop.
