DON’T JUDGE A STARTUP BY ITS FUNDER:
JobScout Launches iOS App in Partnership with California State Library System
SAN FRANCISCO- January 29 – JobScout, (www.myjobscout.org), the web and mobile application
designed to get users back to work by providing essential job seeking tools,announced today the release
of an iOS application downloadable from the iTunes App Store JobScout aims to combat unemployment
through digital literacy. The webapplication launched last year withfunding from the California State
Library.
Today, JobScout will demo and celebrate the product launch at an event hosted by the San Francisco
Public Library, one of over 1,000 libraries using JobScout throughout California.Through the mobile app,
JobScout hopes to bring the power of their platform into the hands of those who may not have easy access
to a computer. Further, the app will make it easier for young Millennials to learn resume building and
other job seeking skills. Millennial unemployment figures currently hover around 25%.
“With our current economy, it is tough to find a job,” said Christina Gagnier, CEO and co-founder of
JobScout, “While people used to be able to check the classifieds or pick up an application at a local
employer, these days most of the job search and application process has moved online. For many people,
this is a problem because they do not know how to use the Internet or, for young Millennials, may
notknow how to apply their tech savvy to finding work. While this may seem unbelievable, 60 million
people in the United States alone are digitally illiterate.”
Features of the JobScout iOS app include:
Lessons on using the Internet for job opportunities;
Gamified platform where users can earn badges for completed lessons;
“One Stop Job Shop” lets users search for openings, save listings, apply and track your progress
with interview dates and times;
ResumeBuilder, a fill-in-the-blank resume system;
One button submission process with pre-formatted cover letters; and
Out-of-the-box ideas for earning money through micro-entrepreneurship through TaskRabbit,
Etsy and other innovative work ideas.
JobScout is a cost-effective, self-guided solution for users who want to make the job search process more
effective and efficient. JobScout also offers white-label solutions for institutions that want to provide job
search and education resources to their community.
JobScout’s iOS launch event will take place at the San Francisco Public Library in the Latino/Hispanic
Meeting Room, Main Library, Lower Level on January 29, 2013, 3:00 – 4:30 p.m. Committed to getting
the web and mobile application into the hands of San Francisco residents, on-site training will be
provided by the JobScout team pre-event for those who need assistance in learning how to use JobScout.
JobScout was created by co-founders Christina Gagnier, Stephanie Margossian and Carter Fort. The trio
has since formed parent company TRAIL to house JobScout and other applications just like it. Plans are
in the works for a similar application in the healthcare and education space. For more information, visit
