 The disabled person as pitiable or pathetic
 An object of curiosity or violence
 Sinister or evil
 The super cripple
 Laughable
 As a burden
 As Non-sexual
 Being unable to participate in daily life
Dr No is the villain of the 1962 movie ‘James
Bond – Doctor No’ and has two prosthetic
hands. He is seen as sinister and evil and is
represented in a very negative way. This
could be telling the audience that disabled
people are always up to mischief.
Ron was fighting in the Vietnam war when he was
shot in the leg and may need to have it amputated.
The clip involves Ron being mistreated in a VA
Hospital. The doctors are not listening to his
problems and mock him instead of helping him.
This represents that disabled people are looked
down upon and are not important.

Raymond is an autistic savant who although has
difficulty communicating and learning, he has an
amazing memory and extreme mathematic skills.
In Rain man we can see the stereotypes being
challenged. Raymond is not represented as
pathetic as the stereotypes suggest but can be seen
as clever and fun even if he does have social
difficulty.
