Cultivating a growth mindset in students can be quite tricky and educators all over the
world have been trying their best to inculcate this among students.
Mr. Mohammad Imran, growth mindset educator at IISJ took the initiative to organise a
workshop on developing growth mindset among students.
On 26th April, 2015, 100 odds students of classes XIB3&B4 gathered in School’s
auditorium to participate in this unique workshop.
The event started with recitation of few verses from Holy Al-Qur’an by Master Abdullah
of grade XIB4, followed by introductory note by Master Rami Latheef of grade XIB3.
The session was carried on keeping in mind the following objectives:
• Intelligence can be developed
• The brain is malleable
• Doing challenging work is the best way to make the brain stronger and smarter
The workshop was divided into three parts:
Part 1: In this part, the students were shown the video on “Growing Your Mind” by Khan
Academy and “Neuroplasticity” by Sentis. After showing the videos, discussions were
hold on both the videos regarding how brain muscles can be developed and how the
brain can be rewired as we learn and think differently.
Part 2: In this part, Mr, Mohammad Imran, discussed his life experience how he
overcame a struggle in written and spoken English and learned to get over with it.
Respcted Headmaster, Mr. Noufal P, also narrated a success story of his younger
brother where with growth mindset how he could become a successful professional.
Part 3: It was the last part of the workshop, where student were given a test on checking
their mindset and finally the contrast between fixed mindset and growth mindset were
discussed. The students were also guided on the ways of developing growth mindset.
