information system. He is responsible for design,
Operation and management of Database .He must be
technically competent, Good manager and diplomat.
He should have good communication skills . Managerial
skills are important in planning, Coordinating and
carrying out different tasks.Technical skills are required
to understand the complex hardware and software
issues.Diplomatic skills are important in communicating
with users , determining their needs and negotiating

Data base dictionary is very useful collection Of data
about database . DBA store data Item name , Source,
meaning and usage In data dictionary.

After analysing the user Environment , the DBA
develop a logical data model for the
organization.This data model consist of all
entities, attributes and relationships.

The DBA chooses a particular database
management system on the basis of logical data
model .The selected DBMS should satisfy All
requirements and constrains identified in the
logical data model.

The DBA creates the exact layout of data according the facilities of
selected DBMS and available resources of software and hardware.

After developing physical model, the DBA creates the structure of
Database by using DBMS .He also
Loads the data into the database.

Any project is basically developed to serve the users DBA should
guide the user about the functionality of database.if any request of
the user is not satisfied,DBA should justify it.
9 . Writing & maintaining Documentation
The documentation is very important when the project is reviewed
or revised. It is normally maintain by data dictionary system of
DBMS . The DBA should ensure the proper documentation of the
project.

10. Developing and enforcing data standards
Data standards are the key to breaking down data silos
and creating interoperability, or the ability to exchange
data between disparate systems and teams.Standards
are also necessary to create data integrity, ensuring data
maintains its value and meaning and is usable,
consistent, and accurate.

DBA should established procedure for different
operations .The procedure includes security and
authorization, Recording hardware and software failure,
Taking performance measurements, Shutting down
database property.

The DBA should train End users , application

 Data administrator is a person who is responsible for
processing data into a convenient data model. The person
is in charge of figuring out which data is relevant to be
stored in the database. Data Administrator is less of a
technical role and more of a business role with some
technical knowledge. This role is also known as Data
Analyst. So, it is mostly a high level function which is
responsible for the overall management of data resources
in an organization.

 Types of data dictionaries
There are two types of data dictionaries: active and
passive.
1. Active data dictionaries are created within the
databases they describe and automatically reflect any
updates or changes in their host databases. This avoids
any discrepancies between the data dictionaries and
their database structures.
2 . Passive data dictionaries are created separately from
the databases they describe to act as a repository for data
information. Passive data dictionaries require additional
work to stay in sync with the databases they describe. As
such, database managers must handle passive directories
with care to ensure there are no discrepancies.
