2. Content outline
The story revolves around the characters Paul Jones, a banker
and his wife Lisa Jones who goes missing. When the police start
investigating the disappearance of Lisa they come across the
suspicious death of Pauls ex-wife Jenny. Jenny's death was
closed off as an accidental drowning when found dead 3 years
ago. They start to re-investigate the case of Jenny's death along
side the disappearance of Lisa, heavily suspicious of Paul.
The series would consist of flashbacks of Paul’s relationship
with both his wives up to the time of their
death/disappearance. The flashbacks will link in with the
investigation going on at the present time. The flashbacks will
contradict what Paul says during the investigations making him
look even more suspicious.
Purpose& Outline - The purpose of this show would
primarily be to entertain, however it would educate the
audience on issues and conflicts that could arise. As it’s a
narrative structure the audience will feel connected to the
characters as the story progresses and will be hooked in to
watch every episode to find out what happens. The series will
consist of 10 episodes with a running time of 55 minutes each
and will be released on Amazon Prime.
Form and style - There will be a serial narrative and the series
will consist of 10 episodes with each episode with a running
time of 55 minutes. This will make it a long form tv show and
will allow it to reflect on more advanced topics.
Content - Key characters are Paul Jones, his wife Lisa Jones
and his ex-wife Jenny Jones. Alongside them will be the
detectives. However the main focus will be on Paul and his wife
Lisa.
3. Setting - It will be set in London, this will allow the show to
incorporate the busy lifestyle of London, making the
disappearance of Lisa Jones more believable as well as
unsettling.
Genre - The genre would be a crime mystery drama but it
would mix in with a dark romance. The dark romantic twists will
make it stand out and be different to other crime dramas on tv
at the moment.
Target audience – The target audience will be a mature age
group of 15 and above, this will be due to the more challenging
story lines and conflicts that arise. The show will appeal to both
males and females.
Potential position in the marketplace- There are many
shows that involve crime and mystery on TV at the moment,
most of them are detective type shows, like Luther which will
incorporate a romantic storyline within two or more of the
characters. This show involves crime and mystery but has a
twist of dark romance in it.
4. CHARACTERPROFILES
Paul Jones –
Main character.
A banker in his late 30’s, married to Lisa Jones.
Paul Jones seemingly has his life together with a well payed job
and working and living in London. His ex-wife died 3 years ago
and was classed off as an accidental death of drowning. Not
long after he married Lisa Jones, a child hood friend of his.
Lisa Jones –
Main female character.
Plot revolves around her. In her mid-30’s, a house wife married
to Paul Jones and living in London. A bubbly person who has
always surrounded herself with people.
Jenny Jones –
Paul Jones ex-wife. Worked as a teacher and lived in London
with her husband Paul jones. Throughout the show we see
flashbacks of her during the time of their marriage.
Detective -
Male detective in his 40’s, been a detective in London for 15
years and now investigating the disappearance of Lisa Jones.
Paul Jones’s Mother -
Uptight woman in her 60’s.
Doesn’t let people push her around and is determined to prove
her son is not guilty.
Lisa Jones friend –
A mother of two, lives next door to Paul and Lisa.
Never been fond of Paul and is determined he is at fault for
Lisa’s disappearance.
5. EPISODE OUTLINES
Episode 1 - 'Pilot'
Introduction to the characters and the serial narrative. Episode
starts off with Paul Jones being questioned about the
disappearance of his wife Lisa Jones. Flashbacks to their
childhood and their friendship through the years.
Episode 2 –
Investigation on her disappearance continues, amongst
flashback of their wedding, showing a happy and content
couple.
Episode 3 –
Investigation continues, audience is introduced to Pauls
mother. Conversations he has with his mother start painting
him in a suspicious light. Flashbacks to arguments that Paul has
with his wife.
Episode 4 –
Closed case of the death of Pauls ex wife resurfaces. Case was
closed off as accidental drowning. Flashbacks to encounters
with Paul, his wife and ex wife.
Episode 5 –
Re-opening the case on Pauls ex wife. Paul becoming a suspect
in both the cases. Flashbacks to violent times between Paul, his
wife and ex wife.
Episode 6 –
Investigation continues. Introduced to a friend of Lisa's, who
claims she knows that Paul killed Lisa. Flashbacks to 2 weeks
before the disappearance, where Lisa's friend was around and
things got intense and borderline violent.
6. Episode 7 –
Evidence that Lisa Jones is dead rather than missing surfaces.
Paul gets questioned on the days before the disappearance.
Flashbacks to the day before her disappearance.
Episode 8 –
Paul gets held in custody under the suspicion of killing his wife.
His mother visits him. Flashbacks to Lisa Jones killing Pauls ex
wife.
Episode 9 –
Pauls court case on whether he was guilty of killing his wife Lisa
Jones. Cliff-hanger on Lisa Jones still being alive.
Episode 10 –
Find out where Lisa Jones is now and what she is doing.
Flashbacks to her planning her disappearance, making it clear
to the audience that Paul is not guilty of her disappearance.
However what really happened to his ex-wife Jenny? Flashback
of a suspicious conversation between Paul and Lisa on the day
of their wedding. The conversation leaves the audience
thinking they killed Jenny. Cliff-hanger for the next series.
Scene breakdown
Episode 10 – The scene starts with a flashback, Lisa Jones
packing a suitcase and leaving the house stepping out onto the
streets, hauling a cab and getting in. Cut to present day, Paul
Jones in the remand cell, seated on the floor with his head in
his hands. We hear the sound of a gate opening and footsteps
from two people, we hear the voice of the guard telling him he
has a visitor. Paul Jones looks up, his expression frozen and
shocked. A female voice speaks to him “Hi Paul, glad you’re so
happy to see me”. A panning shot from Paul to the visitor,
however just before it gets to the visitor it goes into a
flashback. End of scene 1.
