KI wool
steps on to
world stage
By CATHERINE MILLER
S
A’s Merino ram selling season
started in spectacular fashion with
sales earlier this week posting a
jump in average and near total clearances.
Confidence is high with strong returns
for wool and meat, and agents are tipping
on-property auctions will largely mirror, if
not better, a very successful 2014 selling
season, when sales averaged $1500 to
$2000.
The wool market may have dipped from
its spike heading into the mid-year recess
but the Eastern Market Indicator is 1221
cents a kilogram – nearly 200c/kg more
than the same time last year.
Processors are offering a healthy $5.70-
$5.90/kg contract for 2015-drop Merino
lambs.
Merino SA president
Roger Fiebig (pictured),
Sanderston, expected
another “very good ram
selling season”.
He said strong attendance
at the recent Eyre Peninsula
Pre-Sale Expo and South
East Merino Field Days was a
good sign and he was
confident the Karoonda and
Districts Field Days, being
held in Murray Bridge for the
first time, would be a
successful prelude to
upcoming sales.
