Bio Millie Lawhon M.A.ED
1. Biography: Millie Lawhon
Millie Lawhon, M.A.ED. is a Bilingual Educator/ Author of the Children Bilingual Book Series: Curious
Quique - a series of books written in English and Spanish with excellent pictures, and interesting and
informative stories about learning science, math, and life skills.
Denis Proulx, the Owner, Cartoonist, & Illustrator of Shangri La Studios says “Millie is a creative writer
for children's books and it was a pleasure creating her vision for her children's book illustrations.”
Millie has been an inspirational educator in San Antonio, South Texas Schools, and in Puerto Rico where
in addition to her teaching career also had the opportunity to serve as grant writer and prepared the
Annual Performance Report to the City Mayor, Municipality of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. In 1987, she
develops a home- based educational business, the first bilingual Kindergarten in her home town district,
Aguadilla, Puerto Rico.
Millie is certified as a Bilingual Teacher EC-4/ ESL /EC-4 Generalist with the Texas Education Agency
(TEA) and EC-6 Generalist / ESL/ Bilingual Teacher/Elementary School Principal/ ESL-Bilingual
Educational Facilitator in Puerto Rico.
Millie received the Distinguished Teacher Award in May, 2003 from the Municipality of Aguadilla Puerto
Rico. This award was given in recognition of the outstanding performance as an ESL Elementary Teacher
and creator/coordinator of the English Booster Reading Enhancement Project implemented in the
Aguadilla School District, during the school yrs. 2002-2003/2003-2004.
More recently, she received a Recognition Award from Poteet ISD in March 2013 for Outstanding
Dedication & Contribution to the Dual Language/Bilingual Community. In June 2014 she submitted a
video lesson to Texas A&M University /TEA Granters and her presentation was selected; one of the 40
videos selected for demonstrating best practices. Only 40 distinctive teachers in the state of Texas were
given this award. In addition, Millie performed an incredible educational puppet show for children and
their parents in Poteet. Her awesome talent with her puppet, Taina, the Puerto Rican girl, was
conducted in Spanish and English with Millie as a bilingual ventriloquist and singer. She also has
volunteer to perform in other organizations with her puppet or simply enjoys dressing as Dr. Seuss’s Cat
in the Hat to help bring smiles to all the children she encounters in the events.
