Madhu Ranade, Vice President, Operations Burns Harbor, ArcelorMittal USA has elected to
retire.
Madhu joined the predecessor company Inland Steel Company in October, 1977 and has held
various positions of increasing responsibility, culminating in his current role the last 7 years. We
thank Madhu for the significant contributions and leadership he provided during the past 35 years
and wish him and his wife Karen well in the future.
I am pleased to announce that John Mengel is named Vice President, Operations Burns Harbor,
ArcelorMittal USA, reporting to me. In this capacity, John will be responsible for the Operations of
the Burns Harbor and Columbus facilities.
John joined the predecessor company Bethlehem Steel in June, 1976 where he began his
career in mechanical maintenance. John has held various positions of increasing responsibility
within Burns Harbor and Plate Operations, with his latest role as Chief Operating Officer, Plate
Operations, FC USA. John's tactical skills have been well displayed in facility management
including the 110 mill stops and restarts to meet market conditions. He has been instrumental in
integrating the total USA Plate organization and most recently played a key role in the
modernization of the Burns Harbor 160 Heat Treat Line. John has a Bachelor of Science degree
in Industrial Engineering from Penn State University.
I am also pleased to announce that John Battisti is named Chief Operating Officer, Plate
Operations, FC USA, to include Burns Harbor, Gary, Coatesville and Conshohocken reporting to
me.
John began his career with predecessor company Bethlehem Steel in August, 1978 as a
metallurgical engineer in Quality Assurance. He has subsequently held various positions of
increasing responsibility within Burns Harbor Operations with his most recent role as Division
Manager, Plate Mills, Burns Harbor. As an outstanding plate metallurgist, he will lead the plate
business into the future of increasingly sophisticated products. John has a Bachelor of Science
degree in Metallurgy and Material Science from Lehigh University.
Please join me in congratulating John Mengel and John Battisti on their new assignments and
provide them your full support.
