1. Today, as I am about to start a new stage in my life, I am reminded that part of my past
is my educational journey. Despite the obstacles that were presented, I was able to
overcome them and move on. The most difficult stage and challenge that I faced was a
disease. And there was the moment when I learned that study and illness could be
joined to form my attitude. Make me a stronger and more focused person helping me
know what I am looking for and how to always reach my goals.
When, I was attending the 10th grade, I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. I had
severe headaches, migraines and tachycardia. I used to feel weak and I did not have the
strength to do anything.
Unfortunately this happened during the class period. On several occasions this forced
me to miss school and at times I had to return home due to my terrible headaches.
This was a very difficult time for me. I had to keep my school tasks and subjects up to
date. Trying not to get behind because I could not be in classes for my sickness. But this
mishap did not discouraged me nor make me give up.
I often accumulated homework and dissertations. I forced myself to go to the classes
even when my desire to stay home. I endured all the pain and ignored the desire to go
home and rest. Although this problem did not seem like a big deal, it affected me deeply
and sometimes made me feel discouraged.
But in spite of all the difficulties I was going through, I decided that studies were more
important. If I wanted to achieve my dream of one day graduating and studying abroad
I had to be strong and work for what I wanted. Thank God, that year I was able to work
hard my academic performance was not affected. And this last year I am one of the best
students at my school.
Little by little I am overcoming my illness with the help of my parents and especially
God. I am excited to start this new stage in my life, the University.
And I hope that all of my experience through this will allow me to help other people to
become more closer to God, and trust in him, even in the midst of their difficulties
