Site Information
Ophelia’s Place is a non-profit
organization located in Eugene, Oregon.
The agency has been serving girls ages
10-18 since 2005, offering a safe space to
learn how to navigate through
developmental stages in a young
woman's life through positive peer
interactions. It’s mission is committed to
helping girls make healthy life choices
through prevention, support and
education; and has a vision that all girls in
our community will be empowered, valued
and safe (Ophelia’s Place, 2016).
Project Description
Target Population
The target population of this project was
girl-identified, youth of color through the
distribution of two needs based surveys in
local middle and high schools, and other
non-profit organizations.
Future Use &
Sustainability
Challenges and
Limitations
Benefits, Results & Impact
This project was designed to expand and
diversify the Ophelia’s Place consumer
population. At this moment, the
population that accesses Ophelia’s Place
on-site services is primarily White. Since
Ophelia’s Place serves all girls, it is
important to identify and address any
gaps in services. The goal of this project
was to acknowledge these gaps through
community outreach.
• Transportation
• Willingness/availability of
schools
• Time management
• Spread knowledge about Ophelia’s
Place services to hard to
reach/underrepresented
populations
• Gained needs-based feedback
through collection of 100+ surveys
• Provided population- specific
outreach using Interns of color.
• Created space for girls and young
women of color to be heard.
Hopes for this project are:
•To continue to be implemented into
Ophelia’s Place outreach efforts.
•For future Interns who identify as color to
use and refine the designed surveys.
•To continue to provide feedback on services
offered and suggestions for services needed.
