A blessed man, a blessed God and a broken world. The problems and pains and a resolution for God's glory.
We go through each of the 5 books of Psalms (very very briefly) and see how each paints pictures of a world in sin needing a savior in order to 'come home'.

All the world under sin - what the Psalms have to say
1. But the Scripture imprisoned everything under sin,
so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.

blessed man, he is like a tree planted by water ever green,
the nations are his inheritance, (Psalms 1,2)

9. What goes on in book 2
songs of longing for the here and not yet
A song of thirst for God opens, in 42,43 and a reality
of suffering for the sake of Godโs name in Ps 44

of the lamb and a wedding song of a Jewish king Ps 45

Resolution
13. What goes on in book 3
The dark book of the Psalms
โSurely God is good to Israelโ is the opening yet this is
sometimes called โthe dark book of the Psalms.
Jerusalemโs fall is wept over and the close has the
bleakest psalm 88 with no ray of hope in it Psalm 89
the close starts with praise but continues as lament
and 88 89 portend the death of messiah
Just as Samson had his riddle of how something sweet
came out of the dead lion, the sweetest Psalms is 81
at the center of this the center of the 5 books and out
of the death of messiah was the sweetest redemption
and most glory to God.

17. What goes on in book 4
Sojournings and wanderings in a dark world
Moses speaks from the distant past with his Psalm 90 as
the opening. Psalms 23, 23 which were about the
shepherd king come back expansively.
God is our shepherd king in 95
Praises to God rise unexpected from the nations in 96-99
(98 inspired the song joy to the world)
God is the shepherd of the nations and they are the sheep
of his pasture in 100
(A prayer of the afflicted on to God in psalm 102 is taken
as a prayer to Jesus in the book of Hebrews.)
The closing is not victorious and in 105 Israelโs sins are not
mentioned in a song of faithfulness of God but in Psalm
106 they are listed. This leaves a cliffhanger. Both
Gentiless and Jews are in need of help from the shepherd
king.

22. What goes on in book 5
Coming home !!
Jesus statement that people will come from North and South and East and
West may be inspired by the opening psalm 107 which had God saving in
the spirit of Isaiah 61 and the Year of Jubilee of Leviticus 25.
Psalms will open with the blessed man in 1 2 and close with a blessed
God in 146 to 150, in book 5 there are also 2 twin psalms that reverse this
the blessed God 111 and itโs twin the blessed man 112, the church in
Christ.
We have the passover psalms 113-118, which point to a greater passover
in Messiah
We have the songs of ascent, the road songs on the way to worship at the
temple 120-134 and at the center of those the greater than Solomon
must build his house (the church)
The closing 5 praise psalms also start in the spirit of Isiah 61 and in 146
147 there is freeing captives, opening blind eyes and healing
broakenhearted.
23. But the Scripture imprisoned everything under sin,
so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.
