The Symposium focusses on deployment of the IES process, which develops a modular process chain to ensure the interoperability of electronic data exchanges in Smart Grids and Smart Energy Systems. It intends to launch a stakeholder initiative to implement action A4-IA0-5 “Process Chain for Interoperability of ICT Systems of the SET-Plan Action 4 Implementation Plan.

2. IES - Integrating the Energy System
Interoperability is a key factor for the successful transition of the energy system. IES develops a modular process
chain to ensure the interoperability of electronic data exchanges in smart grids and future smart energy systems.
Profiles IES supports the development of specifications in integration profiles based on real world use cases.
Tests Vendors use IES software tools and integration profiles to test their software products for interoperability.
Results IES publishes integration profiles and successful interoperability test results in an online results browser.

The Symposium
The Connectathon Energy Symposium offers an excellent programme to compliment the Connectathon Energy
2019. It focuses on the deployment of the IES process. Experts will present their views and experiences on the
chances as well as the challenges of an integrated interoperable energy system. eHealth experts will share
lessons learned from a twenty-year-long process to achieve interoperability of healthcare information systems.
The symposium will be in English.
Kick-off Event SET-Plan Activity for Interoperability
The symposium closes with the official kick-off event for the IES Europe initiative as part of the SET-Plan activity
A4-IA0-5 Process Chain for Interoperability of ICT Systems .
The European Strategic Energy Technology Plan (SET-Plan) aims to accelerate the development and deployment
of low-carbon technologies. In 2018, the SET Plan Steering Group published the SET-Plan Implementation Plan
Increase the resilience and security of the energy system. In this implementation plan the vision of IES Europe is
defined as the crosscutting activity A4-IA0-5 Process Chain for Interoperability of ICT systems.
Connectathon Energy
Connectathon Energy provides the opportunity for vendors to test their software prototypes in a P2P-environment
for interoperability and conformity to relevant communication standards, e.g. IEC 61850 or IEC 60870-104. The

Connectathon Energy will serve as closing event of the research project IES - Integrating the Energy system.
