Hillcrest High students win prize
1. Hillcrest team takes titleA TEAM from Hamilton's Hill-
crest High School has won the
inaugural title of Best School
for IT in the Waikato and Bay
of Plenty.
Year 10 studeuts Weizhe
Phee, 13, and James Hender-
son, 14, beat off 150 teams in-
volving 436 students from
throughout the region.
The competition was
organised by the New Zealand
Inforrnation Technolory Educa-
tion T?ust and is sponsored by
Wel Energy Trust and Houston
Computers.

Alan Chew, managing director
of Houston Computers, de-
scribed the winning entry as
"near commercial quali!/.
The two students set up a
computer company that re-
tailed school computers, and as
part of their marketing plan
created a budget, brochure, a
multimedia presentation and a
website.
According to Mr Chew, Hen-
derson and Phee would have
no difficult5r in gaining employ-
ment in the information tech-
nolory seetor.
Their prize was a gBZ00
Compaq laptop computer.
A team from Tauranga In-
termediate school - Aidan
Campbell, Dean Mclaughlin
and Bennett Lee - won the
title of "Most innovative use of
IT-.
They won a Philips comput-
er monitor worth $1500. Their -
project revolved around
healthy food choices through
setting up a school lunch bar
with static entries and multi-
media presentations.
