DEAREST PATRON
Compliments of the season and blessings for 2018!
I am honoured to present the Q1 / 2018 Afrikan Art catalogue of [EveNX] | Maharishakti’s Creative Stock
Exchange – an initiative of my legacy NPO | #AnEvenWorldFoundation – to crowdfund ways for an
innovative healthcare solution to be found for me to kick systemic sclerosis.
Since being diagnosed in November 2015 [whilst busy with my doctoral research into the creative
economy 2030 ] – my creativity abilities are tested by the daily realities of coping with one of the 10
rarest auto-immune diseases – especially as a self-reliant creative African woman futurist and Odissi
danseuse. Intent on not taking up space on Earth - and knowing I am so much more than my body
- I continue to pursue my life’s vision of - inspiring creativity that leads to a more beautiful, peaceful
and sustainable world. I call this vision EveNX [AnEveNWorld], for short – and I mutually align with
anyone who shares a similar vision.
In 2016, creative artists responded by donating a collection of some R500k of fine Afrikan artworks to
cover my daily living and medical expenses whilst awaiting my medical aid’s authorisation for the
first bone marrow transplant of this kind in Africa [as my only hope of a future looking brighter than
my past]. I remain deeply humbled by the show of the power of the creative spirit and deeply thank
these artists for supporting me to receive the finest medical care. I thank all those who supported
our curators in 2017 and 2016 respectively | Saba Zahara and the late Kathy Coates who inspired
creativity indeed.
While house-bound due to my low immune system, I continue working on my Phd via its testbed
Creation-iLab, curate the 2018 African Trendstar Journal, as an African creative intelligence &
foresight journal for innovators, adjudicate the Annual International A Design Awards – while
managing EveNX artwork sales, writing thoughtleadership articles for select media – and delivering
select conference papers & keynotes.
2016/2017 REPORT
Funding from the 2016/17 years’ art sales enabled and supported me in the following ways:
1. A full-time care-giver (Avril Atkins) , nurse-aid (Ms Chi-Chi Dizwane) and an assistant were employed to attend to me
during 2016 when partially disabled, I unable to work or fully take care for myself.
2.Private care at UCT Academic Hospital under Prof. Stanley Ress and Prof Asgar Khalla – with daily physiotherapy,
psycho-therapy and speech therapy.
3.Counselling to cope with the sudden death of Kathy Coates, who curated our 1st Heartscape Benefit Art Auction as
well as mourning with Marlene le Roux’s loss of her son, as well as uncle Kathy, uncle Ramesh Vassen and my Father’s
late uncle Dennis O’Brien.
4.With administrative correspondence costs and reports prepared for my medical insurance, to justify the unique merits
of my ‘progressively fatal’ exceptional case – ongoing since 2016.
5.Co-founding SAINT | The Scleroderma Africa Innovation Network which provides a support network to other sufferers
of this auto-immune disease across Africa | see www.facebook.com/sclerodermafrica
6. Set up EVENX : as an E-Commerce trading platform for online sale of the Afrikan Art donated to me with the help of
creative design innovation interns such as Stefan Maritz, Ayesha Daniels, Danielle Geddes and Saba Zahara (Jill
Honeybush Pillay), who is also acknowledged for her curatorship of this 2018 collection.
7.Hospitalisation at Melomed Tokai under the specialised care of Physician Haematologist, Dr Shadrack Nahrwar and the
fine medical team of doctors and nurses who attend to me as per guidance by Mr Ebrahim Bhorat, founder of this
pioneering hospital group (for whom I curated his brand design 20 years ago). How remarkable!
8.Volunteered time with the Art of Living Foundation and Projekt Ubuntu to teach basic meditation & martial arts to
around 40 youth daily in Masiphemele – now, unable to dance, I find myself drawing forth skills from my youth. It is an
enormous privilege to teach township kids how to fight like champions and not hooligans.
9. I recommitted my life to Jesus Christ and am playing an active role in our Church, ARC Ministeries, under Pastors
Benjamin and Hayley Arde, Diaane van Stratton – see www.arc.tv
2018 GOALS & WAY FORWARD
Funding from this year’s art sales will enable me to :
• Obtain a Bone Marrow Transplant at Melomed Tokai R500k
• Travel to New Delhi with a medicarer and assistant to receive a special award R50K
• To grow the EveNX portfolio from art to other segments of the creative economy R100k
• To co-fund SAINT | to continue assisting others in Africa with this disease R250k
• Do pro bono work for NGOs via CreationiLab
• Write up my PhD into a book entitled ‘An Even World’
• Obtain special supplements, holistic medicine, chiropractic etc. costs which falls outside of my medical aid
comprehensive cover.
My 2018 began with a mixture of sadness and excitement. Sadly, I lost my dearest uncle Babs in January and
captured in my eulogy the unique role he played in shaping my approach to life and death.
On a more upbeat note, I was informed by Dr Harbeen Arora, the President of the WEF [the Women’s Economic
Forum] that it has bestowed upon me its highest honour among ‘Women of the Decade’ in Ideation &
Innovation.
These significant moments, in recognition of my life’s work, inspires me to keep on keeping on … trusting that
God has a unique plan for my life and the more I keep my focus on Him | He, as the ultimate futurist, creative,
innovator and designer will unfold my life in unique ways so as to improve not only my health but all areas of
my life, especially with my family, church, work clients, students, friends, medical team and extended community
support .
Sincerely,
Ms Merlegrace O’Brien

EveNX Maharishakti's Creative Stock Exchange Art Catalogue Feb 2018

  • 1. ™ Feb 2018 Afrikan Art Portfolio EveNX | Maharishakti’s Creative Stock Exchange Presented by Creation iLab on behalf of Merlegrace O’Brien and AnEveNWorld Foundation NPO For further information, contact merle.obrien@gmail.com | @merleobrien | @creationilab | @maharishakti
  • 2. DEAREST PATRON Compliments of the season and blessings for 2018! I am honoured to present the Q1 / 2018 Afrikan Art catalogue of [EveNX] | Maharishakti’s Creative Stock Exchange – an initiative of my legacy NPO | #AnEvenWorldFoundation – to crowdfund ways for an innovative healthcare solution to be found for me to kick systemic sclerosis. Since being diagnosed in November 2015 [whilst busy with my doctoral research into the creative economy 2030 ] – my creativity abilities are tested by the daily realities of coping with one of the 10 rarest auto-immune diseases – especially as a self-reliant creative African woman futurist and Odissi danseuse. Intent on not taking up space on Earth - and knowing I am so much more than my body - I continue to pursue my life’s vision of - inspiring creativity that leads to a more beautiful, peaceful and sustainable world. I call this vision EveNX [AnEveNWorld], for short – and I mutually align with anyone who shares a similar vision. In 2016, creative artists responded by donating a collection of some R500k of fine Afrikan artworks to cover my daily living and medical expenses whilst awaiting my medical aid’s authorisation for the first bone marrow transplant of this kind in Africa [as my only hope of a future looking brighter than my past]. I remain deeply humbled by the show of the power of the creative spirit and deeply thank these artists for supporting me to receive the finest medical care. I thank all those who supported our curators in 2017 and 2016 respectively | Saba Zahara and the late Kathy Coates who inspired creativity indeed. While house-bound due to my low immune system, I continue working on my Phd via its testbed Creation-iLab, curate the 2018 African Trendstar Journal, as an African creative intelligence & foresight journal for innovators, adjudicate the Annual International A Design Awards – while managing EveNX artwork sales, writing thoughtleadership articles for select media – and delivering select conference papers & keynotes.
  • 3. 2016/2017 REPORT Funding from the 2016/17 years’ art sales enabled and supported me in the following ways: 1. A full-time care-giver (Avril Atkins) , nurse-aid (Ms Chi-Chi Dizwane) and an assistant were employed to attend to me during 2016 when partially disabled, I unable to work or fully take care for myself. 2.Private care at UCT Academic Hospital under Prof. Stanley Ress and Prof Asgar Khalla – with daily physiotherapy, psycho-therapy and speech therapy. 3.Counselling to cope with the sudden death of Kathy Coates, who curated our 1st Heartscape Benefit Art Auction as well as mourning with Marlene le Roux’s loss of her son, as well as uncle Kathy, uncle Ramesh Vassen and my Father’s late uncle Dennis O’Brien. 4.With administrative correspondence costs and reports prepared for my medical insurance, to justify the unique merits of my ‘progressively fatal’ exceptional case – ongoing since 2016. 5.Co-founding SAINT | The Scleroderma Africa Innovation Network which provides a support network to other sufferers of this auto-immune disease across Africa | see www.facebook.com/sclerodermafrica 6. Set up EVENX : as an E-Commerce trading platform for online sale of the Afrikan Art donated to me with the help of creative design innovation interns such as Stefan Maritz, Ayesha Daniels, Danielle Geddes and Saba Zahara (Jill Honeybush Pillay), who is also acknowledged for her curatorship of this 2018 collection. 7.Hospitalisation at Melomed Tokai under the specialised care of Physician Haematologist, Dr Shadrack Nahrwar and the fine medical team of doctors and nurses who attend to me as per guidance by Mr Ebrahim Bhorat, founder of this pioneering hospital group (for whom I curated his brand design 20 years ago). How remarkable! 8.Volunteered time with the Art of Living Foundation and Projekt Ubuntu to teach basic meditation & martial arts to around 40 youth daily in Masiphemele – now, unable to dance, I find myself drawing forth skills from my youth. It is an enormous privilege to teach township kids how to fight like champions and not hooligans. 9. I recommitted my life to Jesus Christ and am playing an active role in our Church, ARC Ministeries, under Pastors Benjamin and Hayley Arde, Diaane van Stratton – see www.arc.tv
  • 4. 2018 GOALS & WAY FORWARD Funding from this year’s art sales will enable me to : • Obtain a Bone Marrow Transplant at Melomed Tokai R500k • Travel to New Delhi with a medicarer and assistant to receive a special award R50K • To grow the EveNX portfolio from art to other segments of the creative economy R100k • To co-fund SAINT | to continue assisting others in Africa with this disease R250k • Do pro bono work for NGOs via CreationiLab • Write up my PhD into a book entitled ‘An Even World’ • Obtain special supplements, holistic medicine, chiropractic etc. costs which falls outside of my medical aid comprehensive cover. My 2018 began with a mixture of sadness and excitement. Sadly, I lost my dearest uncle Babs in January and captured in my eulogy the unique role he played in shaping my approach to life and death. On a more upbeat note, I was informed by Dr Harbeen Arora, the President of the WEF [the Women’s Economic Forum] that it has bestowed upon me its highest honour among ‘Women of the Decade’ in Ideation & Innovation. These significant moments, in recognition of my life’s work, inspires me to keep on keeping on … trusting that God has a unique plan for my life and the more I keep my focus on Him | He, as the ultimate futurist, creative, innovator and designer will unfold my life in unique ways so as to improve not only my health but all areas of my life, especially with my family, church, work clients, students, friends, medical team and extended community support . Sincerely, Ms Merlegrace O’Brien
  • 5. EVENX| A SOCIALLY INNOVATIVE ART SALES MODEL 100% of the proceeds of artwork sales funds Merlegrace’s medical costs toward a bone marrow transplant in 2018.
